“Blooms for Late Summer”

Welcome to day 5 of my July fashion show.  It’s sweet Patsy’s turn today, and she is very excited to show you her new ensemble.

Does this print look familiar?  It’s the same print I used for Patience’s “Pink and Plummy” ensemble, which I showed you yesterday.  I think it looks quite a bit different in this colorway though.  Instead of an ecru background this one is ivory.  The colors in this print are raspberry, burnt orange, buttery yellow, chocolate, muted turquoise, and dark teal used to depict the greenery.

I am not a huge “fall colors” fan, but I do like this print a lot; it’s probably due to the fact that it includes a pinkish color (raspberry), and I find the muted turquoise gorgeous.

A petite cotton ivory eyelet edging decorates the hemline of Patsy’s dress.  I brought out my favorite shades in this print with a hand dyed raspberry rayon ribbon, which ties around the waistline of the dress, and muted pastel turquoise cotton tights.  To further accent the rosy shades, I added a tiny hand made raspberry bow to the crocheted pearl headband, bright pink blossoms to Patsy’s bouquet, and tiny pink bugle beads to her bracelet.

Patsy’s cardigan is hand knit with a beautiful heathered merino lace yarn in a chocolate color.  It includes teal shades which coordinate nicely with the teal embroidery.  Also, there’s a rosy shade in there too.  There really are too many different colors in this yarn to name.  Isn’t it pretty though?

I was worried about the embroidery getting lost on this dark color.  Before beginning, I made sure my floss colors were either bright, light, or very dark.  I am happy with the end result, and Patsy’s little cardi coordinates perfectly with her dress.

Patsy can wear her cardigan buttoned with the ivory pearls or left unbuttoned.

I just noticed that even Patsy’s eye color and lip color coordinate with this ensemble.  Uh oh, she’ll never want to take this one off!

“Pink and Plummy”

Hello everyone.  Let’s get on with my July fashion show.

The ensembles are starting to feel a tad fall-ish now.  Yes, I know it’s still the middle of summer, but I felt like working ahead, so why not.  (I almost made a Christmas in July set, but I held back, lol.)

Today, it’s sweet Patience’s turn to model her new ensemble for you.

Patience’s dress is made from a Japanese cotton print in a colorful, but muted palette.  The tiny pink and violet blossoms look like they were executed in watercolor, so pretty.  The greenery is depicted with charcoal grey, and the background is ecru or beige.  My darkest ecru lace (English cotton Cluny) worked perfectly on this print.  It decorates the skirt underneath a tuck.  A muted raspberry rayon ribbon ties around the waistline.

Patience’s cardigan is knit with heathered plum lace weight merino wool.  I can’t seem to get enough of heathered yarn; I find all the subtle color differences in one strand quite irresistible.  Hand embroidery around the neckline coordinates with the dress.  The cardi can be worn buttoned or unbuttoned.

Patience’s is wearing a crocheted pearl headband and holding a crocheted basket with bouquet.  Both are made with natural colored bamboo thread.  The tiny bouquet sits in the basket, and can be removed.  The stems are wound with a bit of bamboo thread.

Patience’s other accessories include a bracelet and tights.

I’ll see you tomorrow.  It will be either Lucy or Patsy’s turn to model their new ensembles.  Hmm, wonder who . . .

Have a beautiful day, my friends!

“Glorious Autumn”

The air is cool and crisp—trees are sparse with golden, bronze, and orange leaves—a smokiness fills the air.  It could only be mid autumn!

Our slow and glorious autumn continues here in the midwest.  There are still two red rosebuds on my rosebushes and the lobelias are still blooming in blue.  The few light frosts we’ve had so far didn’t reach these.

I made four sample dresses while putting together my last knitting pattern for Amelia Thimble’s sweater dress.  I wasn’t planning on embroidering these four dresses yet, but dear Amelia had other plans.  “Pretty please, just one!”, she said.  So yes, I gave in and completed one for her.  I must say I am glad I did as her sweet face makes me happy.

And, because it gave me a reason to get outside on this glorious fall day, even if only for a little bit.
