Good Morning!

Good morning and Happy Sunday, friends!  I was up to see the first light of the day this morning.  Although with these shorter days one doesn’t need to get up very early to see the first light of the day.  I took this a little after 6am.  I love being up before it is light, do you?

Yesterday morning, however, I was up a bit later, and instead of the first light I caught the sun welcoming the day.  It was a very frosty morning.  The landscape looked as though sugar had been sprinkled upon it.

When we start getting snow I start filling the bird feeder.  This is the second fill which is almost gone.  Hmm, maybe the squirrels could answer that question.

Here are my three girls in the other sweater dress ensembles I’ve recently made.  Don’t they look festive and warm?

A couple of weeks ago, and while we had snow on the ground, I visited the Chicago Botanic Gardens.  They were very busy setting up for Lightscape, so some places were roped off.  I walked around the Dwarf Conifer Garden which is the perfect place when there is snow on the ground.  It feels so very Christmasy.

I also visited the greenhouses.  I wanted to ‘feel summer’ again, and I did.  The warmth and humidity in the tropical greenhouse felt so nice.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my U.S. readers!  Wishing you safe travels if you are traveling.

From the Past Month

Ah, once again it’s been so long between posts.  Time goes by so quickly!  I should title this post “From the Past Month Plus”.  It’s been a busy August here simply enjoying the summertime.

After a rainy June, July and August finally felt like summer had arrived and I took full advantage.  I thoroughly enjoyed soaking up my dose from the almost daily sunshine!  It makes me a little sad that September is right around the corner; summer was not long enough in my opinion.  Maybe we will be blessed with a warm-ish and sunny autumn.  Fingers crossed!

Here’s a little peak of a new ensemble I just completed for my Little Darling, Lucy.

My girls have agreed to “share” this ensemble soon.  Lucy wants to wear it for a few more days before “sharing” though.

Do you like dragonflies?  This dragonfly landed right on my finger as soon as I was about to take a photo of Lucy’s cardigan.  It was so unexpected and sweet.  He wanted to stay on my finger too.  I’m probably too impatient; I had to set him elsewhere after a minute or two.

Now for some human knitting news.  I finished my “Rumble in Brighton socks”.  You can read about that yarn in my last blog post.  The yarn is a random speckled yarn, but it knit up looking like micro stripes.  I have no idea why…

My current sock project is self-striping yarn by Urth Yarn’s Uneek Sock base in color #58.  My local yarn store where I purchased it at is 2 Needle Chicks.  I must say the yarn is tons prettier than the photo on the box.  I’ll share the finished pair next time.

If you’re in the U.S. I hope you all have a beautiful Labor Day weekend.  I’ve never heard of this, but my daughter has classes on Labor Day!  I thought the point of Labor day was no labor.  Oh, well…

Bye for now, my friends. ❤

Summer is Here!

Happy Summertime my friends!  It doesn’t quite feel like summer yet, but our calendar says it is.  We still continue to have lots of sunless and rainy days.  Now that summer has begun I hope the weather improves.  Today looks promising, finger crossed…

Tuesday was a perfect day to be outside–no wind, no rain, some sun (not too bright), and warm temps.  Since posting pictures of color inspiration for my yellow Little Darling sweater dress I have been struggling to find genuine desire to actually do the work.  The weather on Tuesday was exactly what I needed; it was a pleasure to work outside.  I didn’t finish the dress, but it’s almost there.

An organic farm near us sets up their stand on Friday afternoons.  Last Friday they had put together these peony bouquets mixed with lupines and a white allium.  The peonies smelled wonderful!  The entire bouquet lasted a week, and is still giving us a bit of magic–the smaller peony buds have started to open.

Yesterday my husband and I visited the Chicago Botanic Gardens… yes, again.  I wanted to see the roses in their first bloom… and they were blooming like crazy.  There were roses, roses everywhere–all varieties and all colors.

The English Walled Garden was as peaceful and beautiful as always.

The fountains, which had not been going the last time we visited, were now serenading us and adding to the sights and sounds here.

This hydrangea was growing around the tree you can see in the photo above.  I thought it was interesting.

After walking through a few of the gardens we had lunch in the cafe.  I ordered an Ancient Grains Bowl; garbanzo beans, quinoa, cranberries, broccoli,  farro (I think), fresh spinach, and poppyseed dressing made up this yummy bowl.

Well, the day still looks promising here in northern Illinois.  That’ll mean two days in a row of relatively sunny weather–must be a new record for 2019!

I hope the sun is shining where you are.  Enjoy your day!  Thank you for stopping by.
