American Girl Doll Sweater No. 2

Image

Here is a picture of my second American Girl doll sweater with most of the changes that I wanted to make.  Something I’ve discovered is that I don’t think a 50 gram ball of sport weight wool yarn is enough for long sleeves.  I have very little left after this sweater.  I am going to make the sleeves a bit longer on the next sweater and hopefully I won’t run out.  This sweater is just a wee bit too loose so I’ll have yarn for the sleeves from the narrower width.  I like the sweater to be open in front (a bit) when unbuttoned.  This one doesn’t show the top underneath at all.  By the way this sweater was knit with Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Oyster Heather  and I used wooden beads for the buttons.

My American Girl Doll Sweater is Complete

This first draft turned out ok, but I don’t think I like the neckline and it is a bit snug at the bottom.  I am tweaking the pattern and knitting another sweater in the same wool, but in an oyster color.  The new one will have a ribbed neckline, long sleeves, and be a bit looser.

American Girl Doll Sweater

P1100799 My Project-of-the-Day is to rework my cardigan pattern for the smaller dolls to make it work for the American Girl dolls.  It is such a simple versatile sweater that goes with so many outfits.  This is my first attempt and it is coming along nicely although it may need tweaking since I went up in size a lot.  Surprisingly, I am finding it to not take much longer to knit than a smaller doll sweater.  I used Knit Pick’s Wool of the Andes Sportweight in Blossom Heather.
