From the Past Month

Ah, once again it’s been so long between posts.  Time goes by so quickly!  I should title this post “From the Past Month Plus”.  It’s been a busy August here simply enjoying the summertime.

After a rainy June, July and August finally felt like summer had arrived and I took full advantage.  I thoroughly enjoyed soaking up my dose from the almost daily sunshine!  It makes me a little sad that September is right around the corner; summer was not long enough in my opinion.  Maybe we will be blessed with a warm-ish and sunny autumn.  Fingers crossed!

Here’s a little peak of a new ensemble I just completed for my Little Darling, Lucy.

My girls have agreed to “share” this ensemble soon.  Lucy wants to wear it for a few more days before “sharing” though.

Do you like dragonflies?  This dragonfly landed right on my finger as soon as I was about to take a photo of Lucy’s cardigan.  It was so unexpected and sweet.  He wanted to stay on my finger too.  I’m probably too impatient; I had to set him elsewhere after a minute or two.

Now for some human knitting news.  I finished my “Rumble in Brighton socks”.  You can read about that yarn in my last blog post.  The yarn is a random speckled yarn, but it knit up looking like micro stripes.  I have no idea why…

My current sock project is self-striping yarn by Urth Yarn’s Uneek Sock base in color #58.  My local yarn store where I purchased it at is 2 Needle Chicks.  I must say the yarn is tons prettier than the photo on the box.  I’ll share the finished pair next time.

If you’re in the U.S. I hope you all have a beautiful Labor Day weekend.  I’ve never heard of this, but my daughter has classes on Labor Day!  I thought the point of Labor day was no labor.  Oh, well…

Bye for now, my friends. ❤

“Autumn Glow”

I am noticing that the light is changing as summer winds down and autumn approaches.  The temperature/hue of it seems warmer, more golden, cozier, softer.  Do you notice it too?

The fabric I used for Patience’s new dress reminds me of the change in the light.

Patience’s cotton dress is made with a warm pink/muted salmon Japanese fabric.  The roses are in a deep ivory with fine warm rusty brown shading.  The skirt is embellished with ivory English cotton Cluny lace.

This fabric is still very much in the pink family as pastel warm pink accessories look perfect with it.  Patience’s crocheted mesh drawstring bag is made with warm pink cotton thread.  The bottom of the bag is decorated with an ivory resin rose bead.  I hand beaded a sepal around the base of the rose with coordinating Delica beads.  The bag opens and closes with self handles.  Inside her bag is a fringed edge cotton lawn hanky pressed into triangles.  The bracelet is made with the same Delica beads and a smaller rose than the one used for the bag.  Patience’s hand made headband is an asymmetrical cluster of blossoms/pearls sewn onto a warm pink length of crochet.  Ivory tights complete the accessories.

Patience’s hand knit cardigan is made with lace weight merino/silk yarn in ivory.  Coordinating and mirrored motifs are hand embroidered on the front.  The cardigan can be worn unbuttoned or buttoned with ivory glass pearl beads.

“Fall-ing for this Sweety”

Hi all!  Are you enjoying August?  Honestly, it feels like September to me.  My daughter is all moved in at college and ready to begin her second year.  Temperature-wise, it is another rather chilly morning.  I’ve heard others say how back-to-school feels more like a new beginning than January first does.  I feel this way, do you?

I feel like planning gobs of new ensembles and patterns, and painting my studio, which will then need to get straightened and pared down.  Yikes!  One step-at-a-time!

Today I decided to get Gracie’s new ensemble ready to show you.  I’ve been writing the pattern for her cardigan as I’ve been creating the ensemble, so it’s taken a little longer to complete.  However, she is now all ready!

Gracie’s cardigan is knit with fingering weight merino wool.  It is wonderfully soft and hand dyed to a cool tonal pink.  This color picks up the cool rosiness of the roses on the dress print.  Bullion stitched shaded roses and rosebuds in three different shades (plum, mauve, and raspberry) are sprinkled on the front panels of her elbow length cardigan.

The cardigan can be worn unbuttoned or buttoned with off white glass pearls.

Her dress is made with a Japanese cotton print which features tiny rosy colored roses/rosebuds on a cool plum ground.  The bodice is shaped with waistline darts.  Her full skirt is embellished with very fine scalloped English cotton Cluny lace snugged underneath a tuck.  A raspberry colored silk ribbon ties twice around her waist and ties into a bow in the front.

Gracie wears a delicate necklace and bracelet made with amethyst colored AB Czech glass crystals, golden Delica beads, heart charms and a gold-toned bow charm.  Her headband is hand made with velvet ribbon, and has an elastic loop at the back for slipping on over her hair.  She wears off white cotton Lycra® tights.

Gracie holds a Victorian styled crocheted basket with a beaded handle and tassel.  Inside the basket are a few lilac blossoms she’s picked just for you.

Look for Gracie’s cardigan pattern later this week.  I’ll let you know when it’s ready.

I hope you all enjoy your day today. ❤
