Going Forward and a WIP for Sugar

I woke up this morning, Sunday, and started to reflect on things.  My little world has gone through many changes this year, and I feel I need to change (and grow) along with it, in some way at least.

I believe in giving back, and there are many ways to do that.  Mind you, I have put in my fair share of volunteer work, and donating money to various organizations, but I want to do something different; to give back utilizing the talents God has given me.  As with everyone, he has given me my talents for a reason, and I love what I do, so much.

So here I sit wondering how to give back while, at the same time, utilizing my talents.  A few ideas have started trickling in . . . small steps, hopefully in the right direction.  I am working on some ideas, and I hope some of them will pan out.  I’ll keep you informed along the way.  Don’t worry, I will still be doing what I love to do, creating for our dolls.

Meanwhile, I continue to downsize.  I will continue have things on my tag sale page and on eBay (a couple auctions starting tonight) before they head on over to Goodwill.  I don’t know how long I will keep eBaying and tag saling; I may get tired of the whole process and simply donate it all.  It takes a considerable amount of time (time taken away from creating), to photograph, edit photos, add them to my website or eBay, write descriptions, then pack and ship.  Although, I’m not sure Goodwill is the right place to donate boxes and boxes of new dolls though.  Does anyone know of other donation sites?  I’d appreciate some suggestions.

Back to dolls!  I worked on an elbow-length sleeved sweater dress for Sugar (Pukipuki) yesterday.  The style is super cute and fall-like, but I am not sure I like the way her arms can’t hang straight down due to the bulk under the arm.  What do you think?  Really, I’d love to hear; I can’t decide.

In the photo below, you can see how her right arm can get closer to her body (I have her left arm further out on purpose).

Don’t forget, please let me know of any donation sites you’d recommend, thank you!

And, thanks so much for stopping by for a visit! ❤

“Heavenly Hydrangeas”

I love hydrangeas!  I cannot grow them, but I love them all the same.  I see hydrangeas blooming in neighbors’ yards seemingly without any extra care or attention, and they are so BEAUTIFUL!  They don’t even want to grow for me, much less bloom.  I did have one hydrangea??? grow for me, but the blooms were so tiny and not at all hydrangea-like, so I question whether it was a hydrangea or not.  And, the fact that it actually grew leads me to believe that it was mistakenly marked as a hydrangea and NOT a hydrangea at all.  Oh, well. . . maybe one of these days I’ll get lucky.  I surely won’t give up!

My daughter brought home a couple of cut hydrangea blossoms for me the other day.  The blue color reminded me of a dress that Sugar has been wearing for a couple of weeks now.  I couldn’t decide on the embroidery to get it finished, so it waited for me to be inspired.

Aren’t the blossoms gorgeous?  And don’t they match Sugar’s dress perfectly!  They were just the inspiration I needed.  Sugar is one happy little Pukipuki.

Clusters of colonial knots worked perfectly to give the feel of a hydrangea bloom.  Since I love both pink and blue hydrangea blooms equally, I decided to use both of these colors along with white in my embroidery.

Thank You & Something for Sugar

First of all, thank you all for the love and support you showered me with yesterday.  It’s amazing how uplifting you all are!  I sit all alone and work in my studio day after day, but you all make me feel that I am not really working alone; I feel I am simply in my office which is located in a bigger building.  So, thank you all so very, very much!

Today my Fairyland Pukipuki, Sugar, wants to show you her little something in blue.  It is a tiny dress knit in a tonal baby alpaca/silk lace weight yarn.  I love all of the subtle shades of blue, violet, and pink in this colorway.  I’ve used it before here (Little Darlings), here (Amelia Thimble), and here (Amelia Thimble).  Although I’ve used this yarn a few other times, this is the first dress I’ve made for Sugar with it.  And sadly, it is no longer available, so when my one skein is gone… well, you know… 😦

“Garden of Blues” was finished before “My ‘Blue’-ming Garden” that I showed you yesterday, but Sugar would not agree to let me sell it until now.  I told her that I have another dress for her that I am going to dye in a surprise shade of pink, so she relented.

Sugar enjoyed our photo shoot in the garden very much.  She loves how her dress coordinates with all of the flowers that are blooming now.  Sugar was especially captivated by the lilac phlox.
