Thank You All So Much

I just wanted to say thank you to all of you for the support and condolences since my last post about my dad passing.  It helps more than you could possibly know, so thank you so very much.  Even if you didn’t leave a comment, thank you for reading my post.  My dad will continue to live on in my heart.

One of my last dear memories of my dad was from this past December when he commented on how he visited my blog and got caught up as to what I was doing and making; he said he was proud of me.  I’ll never forget the fact that he took the time to see what I was doing even though dolls held no interest for him.  He was such a dear!

When I got home on Wednesday I had two new packets of goodies to have fun with:  four new wigs and three sets of eyes.  Right away I had to try something on Penny.  Here she is  wearing a Kemper Giselle wig in blonde and Eyeco platinum eyes in Lady Blue.  I wasn’t sure of the shade of blonde this wig would actually be; it’s the same color as Helen Kish’s Riley doll’s hair!  The eyes are a deep blue violet, really pretty.  I guess one of my favorite new pastimes is giving Penny a new look, she looks cute so many ways.

Yesterday I embroidered a mohair cardigan for the Little Darlings.  I’ve had this sweater knit since my last trip to Florida and had made the dress when I got home in mid January.  Most likely this ensemble will go on record for taking the longest to complete.  As of Friday afternoon, it still isn’t finished.

Today, I did a little straightening up in my sewing room and found a couple of things for Amelia Thimble and Izzy , and my Pukipuki’s first dress that I made for her.  I was in the mood for something lighthearted and cutesy, so I had a little photo shoot with them.

Amelia Thimble wanted to play with my music box gramophone ( a vintage piece from my grandma).  She had no idea what a gramophone was, so I had to explain it to her.  Amelia thought that the ‘funnest’ part was when her teddy bear got a ‘ride’ on the record.

Little Izzy loves her super soft floor puppy pillow.  Oh, and there’s that silly rabbit again; he’s always trying to photobomb every photo.

These three ensembles will be for sale at special prices (cindyricedesigns.com) on Saturday night, 7:00 pm, CST.

Thanks for reading my blog; bye for now!

“A Merry Welcome”

Seriously everyone, this is absolutely, positively my last Christmas ensemble of 2105!

When I got the shipping confirmation number last Friday night for Linda Macario’s Penny I was in shock.  It had been so long since I preordered Penny that I had stopped expecting her to show up any time soon.  I didn’t think she’d be my Christmas doll, that’s for sure.

So, when Penny arrived on Monday I thought that she’s GOT to have a Christmas ensemble for her first Christmas.  In between baking cookies, wrapping up boxes to send to long distance relatives, Christmas shopping, chauffeuring (school is still in session), and everything else, I managed to get something made for her.

Without further ado, here is Linda Macario’s new BJD, Penny.  She is about 8 1/2″ tall and very chubby and cute.  She reminds me of a Christmas elf.  Luckily, I had a Little Darling Santa hat that I ended up not using for the Little Darlings “I Love Rudolph” set; Penny claimed it as her own when she saw it.  She also took one of their wigs.  And, … she took Talyssa’s beautiful green eyes.  Now, that sounds grotesque, but that is the life of a BJD.  I need to order more eyes.

a merry welcome 411It’s always a bit of a puzzle creating ensembles for new dolls, a fun puzzle, but it takes time to get it completely right.  So even though there are some changes I’d like to make for Penny’s next sweater dress, I think she looks cute in her first.  I also want to get a dress pattern made for her.

It was a cold day and quite windy so I only took a few photos of Penny outdoors before heading inside.a merry welcome 400a merry welcome 397

Thank you for helping me welcome Penny into the world.  I think she’ll like it here.

Santa’s Tiny Helpers

My Pukipuki Sugar, and Amelia Thimble are wearing bright red Santa hats and dresses for Christmas.  They are hoping that Santa notices them this year and needs their tiny helping hands for various elfin chores.  If Santa needs a reference for them I am ready to give him one.  These two are priceless; he’d better return them home to me after their chores are completed though, I’d miss them terribly.

Their Santa sets are made with bright red hand dyed lace weight merino and “fur” trim knit out of mohair/silk lace yarn.  (I love the way this yarn dyed up; it’s a very light tonal, with lights and darks.)  The dresses are embroidered with mistletoe berries, greenery, and blue spruce evergreen boughs.  Both tines are wearing tinkling bells at the ends of their Santa hats; maybe you’ll hear them on Christmas Eve.

Amelia wants to show Santa that she can climb around in Christmas trees and hang little ornaments.
