Miscellaneous Ramblings

Both yesterday and today we’ve had the most perfect springlike weather here in northern Illinois.  It was so glorious today that our happy little crocuses woke up from their long winter’s nap.

As I was sewing yesterday (Millie is getting a new dress) I kept glancing up at Gracie.  Hmmm, wonder what she’d look like in another wig… I decided to try Talyssa’s “messy braids” wig on her.  I have no idea the name or maker of this wig.  The braids stay braided very nicely though— I like it a lot.

Does anyone know who makes this type of wig?  The fibers aren’t as silky as those on a Monique wig.

I am getting tired of the few mohair colors of yarn that I have, and wanted to see if a finished sweater would dye up nicely.  Because the fibers are so long and fuzzy, I don’t even want to try dyeing the yarn; I fear a tangled mess.  I wanted very light colors, so mixed up super light dye.  The sweaters came out darker than I expected and a slightly different shade than what the dye bath looked to be.  The sweater ended up being very pretty pastel shades though.  I dyed the real thing today and took photos of the process to show you soon.

My husband bought me a bunch of yellow tulips this weekend.  Sugar took one look at the bouquet and had to check them out.  She said that they were so pretty and they matched her dress perfectly.  Whoa, hang on tight, Sugar!

Thank You All So Much

I just wanted to say thank you to all of you for the support and condolences since my last post about my dad passing.  It helps more than you could possibly know, so thank you so very much.  Even if you didn’t leave a comment, thank you for reading my post.  My dad will continue to live on in my heart.

One of my last dear memories of my dad was from this past December when he commented on how he visited my blog and got caught up as to what I was doing and making; he said he was proud of me.  I’ll never forget the fact that he took the time to see what I was doing even though dolls held no interest for him.  He was such a dear!

When I got home on Wednesday I had two new packets of goodies to have fun with:  four new wigs and three sets of eyes.  Right away I had to try something on Penny.  Here she is  wearing a Kemper Giselle wig in blonde and Eyeco platinum eyes in Lady Blue.  I wasn’t sure of the shade of blonde this wig would actually be; it’s the same color as Helen Kish’s Riley doll’s hair!  The eyes are a deep blue violet, really pretty.  I guess one of my favorite new pastimes is giving Penny a new look, she looks cute so many ways.

Yesterday I embroidered a mohair cardigan for the Little Darlings.  I’ve had this sweater knit since my last trip to Florida and had made the dress when I got home in mid January.  Most likely this ensemble will go on record for taking the longest to complete.  As of Friday afternoon, it still isn’t finished.

Today, I did a little straightening up in my sewing room and found a couple of things for Amelia Thimble and Izzy , and my Pukipuki’s first dress that I made for her.  I was in the mood for something lighthearted and cutesy, so I had a little photo shoot with them.

Amelia Thimble wanted to play with my music box gramophone ( a vintage piece from my grandma).  She had no idea what a gramophone was, so I had to explain it to her.  Amelia thought that the ‘funnest’ part was when her teddy bear got a ‘ride’ on the record.

Little Izzy loves her super soft floor puppy pillow.  Oh, and there’s that silly rabbit again; he’s always trying to photobomb every photo.

These three ensembles will be for sale at special prices (cindyricedesigns.com) on Saturday night, 7:00 pm, CST.

Thanks for reading my blog; bye for now!

What’s Penny’s Best Look?

I have found with my dolls that there is alway a specific hair color and/or style that most often looks the best on them.  There are exceptions, of course, but I find that after I’ve had a doll for a time, I find her “look”.  I’m still searching for Penny’s look; I’ve only had her for a few months, so it’s still early.

This morning I tried multiple wigs on her with her new crocheted cap.  What do you think?  Any standouts?

This is the wig that I first put on her to take her photos wearing her new outfit.  It is a Kemper Giselle mohair bob in Medium Brown.  Gina (my Little Darling) wears this wig often as she looks best as a brunette.

This is Gina’s favorite wig; another Kemper mohair wig in light brown, called Hannah.

This mohair wig by Kemper is called Tomboy and the color is auburn.  It is a strange wig (I think), but looks cute with a hat.  Gina looks cute in it too.  You can see her here.

This Kemper mohair wig is called Raven and is in carrot red.  It is very silky and very red. I think Penny looks great as a redhead; the strands of mohair on this wig are way too long for Penny though.  I could always trim it if it becomes Penny’s best look.

I like Penny as a blonde too.  Here she is in the Giselle wig again, but in the pale pale blonde color.

Hmm, what do you think?  Maybe I need to buy more wigs?

Let me know if you have a favorite.

Bye for now!
