What’s Up with White?

White is in the air.  Is it the snow?  Is it the endless stream of cloudy days?

Last week I got this idea to knit up some Amelia dresses in different whites using different fibers.  Then, I thought it would be fun to crochet up some springtime hats in white as a basic to go with lots of different colored dresses.  Jeanne over at I Dream of Jeanne Marie posted about her white American Girl doll dresses on Friday (1-30-15).  See, it’s all about white.

Giving a person who loves color an exercise of working solely with white is very difficult.  I realized that when I design an ensemble my number one thoughts are about color and how to coordinate all of the colors together.  When I started working only with white I had to think of other options such as texture and embellishments.  It took me a while to get in the swing of things, but I eventually figured it out and learned a few things from this exercise.

It’s funny though, by the time I got to the fourth hat I had to sneak in a bit of pink.

    Hi Cindy,
Your little white hats are just the cutest things! I love tiny little goodies and these are definitely goodies! I like how you have them displayed on the thread spools! Very clever! Amelia looks so sweet in each and every one of them. If I had to pick just one it would be the pearls and lace hat, but they are all so adorable. You have such a wonderful talent for knitting and crocheting. I have a question… how come dresses and sweaters are knitted and most of the time hats are crocheted? Does it have something to do with them being round? I’ve always wondered that…
Thanks for the mention and referral to my blog. I appreciate that.
I’ve been thinking about it for a long time…actually ever since I showed my sister your tiny things…but I was wondering if I could ask you some questions about what you do and sort of do an interview online and then post it on my blog? Would that be something you would consider?
    Blessings, Jeanne

Hi Jeanne, I can’t answer for everyone, but I crochet hats when I want them with more stiffness. Crochet incorporates more thread in every stitch. When I make a winter type cap knitting works better. Both crocheted and knitted pieces can be made in the round. I enjoy knitting over crochet, but crochet is easier to fit as you go and to be able to rip back a row if it isn’t fitting or looking quite right.
Sure, bring on the “easy” questions.
