Twilight Tour at the Pabst Mansion & Other Bits

2019 christmas ornament 4858

Hello friends!  And Happy Solstice!  It’s the shortest day of the year.  I think I read there are only 9 hours of daylight today.  We have some sunshine and warmer than normal temperatures happening now.  I think everyone in the US does too?  It’s not very Christmas-y, but so much easier to travel for everyone who is visiting family and friends.

We’ve had lots of cloudy days this fall, but once in awhile sunsets like these happen.

2019 ornament for knitters 4857

All you knitters and crocheters understand this ornament, don’t you?  We laugh about often at a local craft group I attend.  It’s a problem for most of us in the group.  I don’t really count when I am knitting, but definitely when I am crocheting.

We attended the Twilight Tour at the Pabst Mansion in Milwaukee, Wisconsin last night.  We had previously attended in 2017 and enjoyed it very much.  Photos from the three posts in 2017 can be found herehere, and here.  This year the rooms were decorated by different designers, so they looked a little different which was nice.

The smaller photos will enlarge if you click on them.

The library has been taken over by teddy bears–my favorite room in the house this year.

There are two guest rooms on the third floor.  The larger one, the primary guest room, also has a sitting room.  The two sons’ bedroom is also on the third floor, but was closed this evening.

We enjoyed our Twilight Tour very much again this year.  This Pabst Mansion is a treasure and I am thankful to all those who helped to save it from becoming a parking lot!!!

I hope you enjoyed coming along with me.

What are you up to this weekend?

Thank you for sharing the wonderful photos. What a treasure! Funny, but when I saw the tree on what I thought were the stairs, I wondered, why would they put a tree there? Then I discovered it was the musicians area. 🙂 So many lovely decorations everywhere. Such a showpiece. Seeing the dining room, with the elegant place settings an menu made me reflect on the kitchen staff and food larder. The staff must have toiled for some time to ready the extravagant meal. Cooking was so much work for everyone back in those times. All I can say is thank goodness for Trader Joe’s and Costco. 🙂
Around here, I have to get on wrapping presents for the grands. We’ll be loading up the sleigh and heading out to deliver very soon. Hope you have time and good weather to get out on a walk. We are back from ours where we enjoyed chatting with neighbors, but rain is expected later.

Hello, Joy. Yes, it must have been loads of work for the mansion staff. Hopefully they were compensated well. Glad you enjoyed the photos. It’s always a treat to visit at Christmastime.
My physical therapist says it is okay to walk one mile, so that is what I’ve been doing. The weather today is absolutely gorgeous–wish I could bottle it up.
Enjoy the time playing Santa and visiting with the little ones.
      Thanks, Joy. ❤

Oh, how absolutely beautiful, Cindy! Everything is so exquisite and perfect! I love the China with the good trim, the gorgeous trees, so expertly decorated! I would have loved to live back in those days, but I’m afraid I would be relegated to scrubbing the floors, not having fancy parties! It is wonderful that these beautiful mansions have been kept up and are still taken care of. They are a treasure!
Me? baking cookies, finishing wrapping gifts, and keeping up with the usual things! It’s nice to sit back once in awhile and look at those beautiful places.

I tried to write in your last blog about your dining room, but it would not take my comment. Not sure why, but I very much enjoyed seeing your pretty dining room in the early morning hours, so peaceful!

Hi, Linda. It would be fun to live this life for a day, wouldn’t it–just to see what it’s like of course. I probably would be bored not having much to do except socialize and eat meals others have made–wonder what those living this lifestyle did back then to keep busy.

This is the only mansion on the street to have survived. It was once a street filled with grand mansions–so sad, but we luckily have this one.

I’m happy you enjoyed my last post too. My dining room is not quite up to mansion standards, but it is home and I love it.

Merry Christmas, Linda. I hope you got your cookies made and all your gifts wrapped.

      Many thanks for writing. ❤

I am just getting to comment on your post now Cindy! It has been a really busy time as I’m sure you have guessed. Our weather has been higher than normal also, right now it’s 40 degrees. I love I hope the Shish I’m counting decoration! The visit to the Pabst Mansion sounds so fun and looking at the pictures it is so pretty inside. I think I like Emma’s room the best I love that Christmas tree. The staircases are also nicely decorated. I might have to put the Mansion on my Christmas bucket list for future visits! I have to go now and finish writing my post for this week! Take care Dear, Terri xo.

Hi, Terri. It’s such a busy time, isn’t it? I’ve been wanting to post again, but the days are simply flying by. You should definitely visit the Pabst Mansion during Christmastime if you find yourself in the area. We have never been in the summer and I think I’d like to see it with the sunshine streaming in the windows and the gardens in bloom. I hope you had a nice holidays. How are they over already??? It was just Thanksgiving! I really cannot get over the passage of time. Hugs to you, Teri. ❤
