A Shivery Hello

Hi all.  I hope you are enjoying the weekend.  Right now I’m sitting in front of a cozy fire.  I don’t want to get up to do anything, so it’s a great time to write to you all.  Outside it is raining quite heavily, and it’s not a warm rain, I might add. Our wind chill is 29°F (-2°C) degrees on this April 29th!  Ugh!  I’m dreaming of last weekend and earlier in the week when it was beautiful.

I find that I sleep better at night when I’ve been out for a walk (probably because it wears me out-ha), so I’ve been trying to walk daily.  I took some photos last weekend and earlier in the week of how things are looking here in northern Illinois.  I want to share them with you.

I often walk down this country road; it’s very peaceful and quiet.  This crabapple in front of a little farmhouse was very colorful; I had to capture it with my phone.

This is just a fraction of violets that covered a huge expanse of someone’s front lawn.  They don’t last long though.  When I walked past today, the flowers were almost all gone. I do love violets though.  Even the heart-shaped leaves are pretty.

Back at our house we had tulip quadruplets in bloom.

The brilliant red violet lilacs have started blooming.

Gina found this nest which fell out of one of the tiny lilac bushes.  She inspected it, and will be putting it securely back for mama robin to return to.

We have carpets of lilac phlox blooming around our property.

Our apple tree is in bloom now, too.  I brought some branches inside last week, when they were beginning to bud, and they bloomed inside.

The daffodils looked pretty for a couple of weeks around Easter time.  Now, this is how they are looking.  I kind of like how they all dried up and seem to be stuck in this state.

I couldn’t resist showing you this next photo of our backyard.  I know dandelions are weeds, but sometimes I find them kind of cheerful.

Back in the studio today, my sweet Alice wanted to say hello.  Alice is painted by Nelly Valentino.  I think I only had to wait a year for her to arrive, she arrived last June.  Don’t you love her brown eyes!

Also, today I rinsed and preshrunk this bunch of fabric.  There are a couple here that I will be using next.  Even though it’s an extra step I like to preshrink all fabrics and cotton laces because I often dampen when ironing and I don’t want some things shrinking more than others do.

I hope you are staying warm and dry wherever you are today.  Happy springtime!  Bye for now, and thanks for visiting with me today.

One More for March!

Hello to you all!  Yep, one more, and then March 2017 is a wrap.

My very spoiled Little Darlings worked out amongst themselves who would model this last ensemble.  They decided that Alice, my Little Darling painted by Nelly Valentino, would be the one to get the job.  I must say they chose well; she looks as sweet as sugar in this new spring set.

Isn’t she a cutie pie! ❤  Alice shines in neutral, warm colors.

The fabric I used for this dress is the same print as used for “A Whisper of Spring”, but this one is in the warm palette.  The colors coordinates with Gracie’s “A Springtime Garden Stroll”.

This print is made up of salmon, blush pink shades, a bit of neutral gold, and a soft green.  The background is the palest of peach, as light as ivory, but peachier.  The hemline is edged with a beautiful scalloped English cotton Cluny lace in ecru.

I chose to highlight the salmon color with a rayon ribbon sash and a hand made bow on the cloche hat.  Alice’s cloche is crocheted with ivory cotton and white bamboo.  The brim is edged with a feminine shell stitch.  I like the brim turned up on the right side, a very stylish look.  The bow is handmade with a multi pearl beaded center, and the knit leaf is in a soft green bamboo.

Alice’s hand knit “light as a feather” cardigan is made with lace weight mohair/silk yarn.  The floral embroidery coordinates with the dress.

Alice’s spring basket is crocheted with blush pink cotton.  Her little duckling is a vintage porcelain miniature, and sits atop a bit of green Easter grass.  Alice’s bracelet is made with tiny pearls and pink seed beads.  A peach/clear marbleized glass heart dangles from the bracelet.  The tights are in the palest warm shade and are made with rayon Lycra® knit.

I hope you all have a beautiful day!  Thank you so much for visiting with me today.

“A Rosy Outlook”

My Little Darling, Alice, is forever contemplating life and the world with a positive attitude.  Actually all three of my Little Darlings are like that, and they remind me on a daily basis to do the same.  Really, though, how can one be gloomy gazing at their beautiful and sweet faces!

Our latest blast of springtime hasn’t made it difficult to have a rosy outlook either.  Spring has been here in the Chicago area for a good many days now, and I am spoiled beyond being spoiled, if that’s possible.  The warmth and sunshine feels heavenly, and I am enjoying every second of it!

Just like our weather, Alice’s new ensemble is all warmth and sunshine.  The dress features the tiniest pink roses in shades of warm pink and pretty green.  The background is a deep ivory or light maize color.  Ivory scalloped French lace edges the hemline.  A  hand dyed rayon ribbon sash ties in a bow at the back of the dress.

The wool sweater is knit with panels of lace on the center back, down the center of each sleeve, and a narrower panel along each front.   Tiny bullion stitched rosebuds mingle with the knitted lace on the sweater’s front.

A beret that matches the sweater is knit from my beret pattern.  A pair of embroidered rosebuds and a hand made pom pom embellish this tiny beret.

Accessories to complete this ensemble include a crocheted flower basket filled with a paper wrapped bunch of blossoms, a bracelet, and tights.

Alice’s “A Rosy Outlook” ensemble will be available tonight (February 21, 2017) at 7:00 pm CST, cindyricedesigns.com.

BTW, I am so sorry about the technology problems last night which made me unable to publish my website at 7:00.  I stumbled upon a work around which will hopefully prevent it from happening tonight.

I hope you all are having a great Tuesday!  Thank you so much for visiting with me today.  Bye for now! ❤
