“Sweet Summertime”

Yay!  It’s time to celebrate summer!  June has been nothing but warm, or hot, and sunny, sunny, sunny!  It seems like we’ve had more blue sky days this month than we’ve had all year.  It sure is glorious seeing the sun shine all day long!  I hope you’ve been as fortunate with sunshine as we’ve been, here in northern Illinois.  If not, I’ll bottle some up, and send it to you.  (Don’t you wish that could really be done?)

My Little Darling, Gina, is here to celebrate summertime with you.  She is dressed in sunny yellow, flowery pinks, and of course, blue sky blue.

The cotton Japanese print I used for this dress is both pastel and bright, perfect for summertime.  I originally made a deeper aqua cardigan for this dress, but thought the sunny yellow accessories were a better choice.  The dress is decorated with warm white English cotton Cluny lace and hand dyed soft yellow hand made silk bows.  A matching silk ribbon sash ties around the waistline.

The knitted lace capelet, crocheted headband and drawstring purse are made with buttery yellow bamboo thread.  (Please excuse Gina’s messy hair; it’s a very windy day.)

The lightweight capelet features lace stitches all the way around and closes with a pearl bead and loop.

The drawstring bag is decorated with a bright pink resin rose and hand beaded sepal at the rose’s base.  Inside is a fringed hanky made out of white cotton lawn and folded into a triangle.

“Petite Treasures”

Look what Gina found in the garden?  A little nest was resting on the ground; it had fallen from its perch in a nearby tree.  Gina and I will put it back safe and sound so that mama bird can continue on with her role as mother-to-be.

Gina’s new dress is made with a cotton Japanese floral print in the yummiest of color palettes:  pinks, blues, and yellows.  The hemline is prettied up with a border of ivory French cotton scalloped lace.  An ivory satin ribbon ties around the waistline.

The capelet and beret are made with sky blue Peruvian Highland wool yarn.  The capelet is knit in a lace pattern to give it a delicate look.  It can be worn with the opening in the front or back.  Tiny pink roses are embroidered all the way around the hemline.  The beret is embellished with a handmade matching ivory satin ribbon bow and an embroidered pink rose.  I think the beret looks cute when worn at a jaunty angle.

The tiny nest is filled with two sky blue eggs and coordinating blossoms.  (Gina insisted on adding her magic touch to the nest.)  The contents are kept in place with hot glue.  Clear jewelry elastic loops are tied to each side of the nest to act as handles.

Hand dyed pastel pink cotton Lycra® tights and a beaded bracelet (with a very cute bird charm) complete this ensemble.

“Color Me Sunny”

Hello all!  I have a new ensemble to show you today.  Lucy, my Little Darling, is here to model it for you.

My newest ensemble is yellow!  To be honest, yellow isn’t a color I gravitate towards using often.  I don’t know why I don’t choose yellow more often; it’s such a happy and warm color.

Sometimes when I am least excited about sewing with a fabric, well, that’s when I am pleasantly surprised.  While creating this ensemble all the pieces fell easily in place, and I grew more and more excited about it.  Lucy’s radiant smile doesn’t hurt either.

The golden yellow roses on this print are simple, only a couple of shades, but very pretty.  The feel of the fabric is wonderful too, softer than most other cotton prints; it may be a combed cotton.  The background is a warm white, so I chose matching English cotton Cluny lace to decorate the skirt’s hemline.

The golden yellow mohair/silk lace yarn in my stash went beautifully with this print.  I chose to knit a simple lace capelet and embroider warm white roses with yellow centers randomly on the panels.  The capelet closes at the neckline with a golden yellow pearl and loop.

Lucy’s lace rose hair tie is made with the same lace as used for the dress.  The center is decorated with another golden yellow glass pearl.  I had the perfect green shades of wool felt, so used it to make two leaf shapes, and a little cotton crochet chain bow adds daintiness.  Instead of tying the hair tie into the hair, it simply slips into the hair with a hand made bobby pin.

Gina has picked a sunny yellow bouquet for you.  It is tied with nylon English cotton Cluny lace and matching pale yellow rayon ribbon.

This ensemble called for pretty jewelry.  I made a choker with Czech glass crystals, 14k gold-filled beads, foil lined Delica beads.  The beads are strung on jewelry thread with bead tips to hide the knots.  I crafted a hook out of gold-filled wire to make closing the choker as easy as possible.  The bracelet is made with the same crystals and gold beads.  A delicate heart that matches the other golden yellow pearls dangles from the bracelet to show that this set was made with great care and love.

Very pale yellow hand dyed cotton Lycra® tights complete this happy ensemble.
