“Surprise it’s a Snowgirl!”

I finished my new Little Darling ensemble, and guess which of my Little Darlings gets to model it for you!  Is it Gina, Lucy, or Alice?

It’s Gina!  And I must say she is thrilled!  That little snowgirl made all three of them swoon.  But Gina is the oldest, so you know how that goes.

Gina’s wintry outfit is sure to keep her toasty warm on these chilly cold days.  The drop waist styled dress print features two shades of very pale greyish lavender snowflakes on an ivory ground.  I’ve also embroidered a few snowflakes on the skirt in a random fashion.  A shimmery white organza ribbon ties around the waistline and tiny white pearls decorate the back placket.

Her sweater coat (maybe it’s more like a jacket, but I’m calling it a coat) is longer than a typical sweater, and is hand knit with a heathered wool yarn.  It is a very pretty shade with hints of the palest pink and blue violet mixed in with the “not too bright” lavender.  I REALLY love heathered yarn!  Embroidered snowflakes (embroidered with mohair/silk and baby alpaca/silk yarn) and seed bead (silver lined and palest pink) flakes fall into the patch pockets.  The patch pockets are knit onto the sweater fronts and can really hold little treasures, such as the snowgirl.

The snowgirl is hand felted with yarn scraps, seed beads, needle and thread.  I knit her a tiny cap, in the round on size 000 needles, with very fine baby alpaca/silk lace yarn!  This is my tiniest knit hat ever!  And, probably my tiniest little creature ever.

The vintage styled headband earwarmer is embroidered to coordinate with the sweater coat.  It ties under her chin off and off to the side.

A bracelet made with silver lined seed beads, a clear iridescent heart bead, and an ivory enameled snowflake decorate Gina’s wrist.  She also wears ivory cotton Lycra® tights.

“Christmas Caroler” for the Little Darlings

If you can’t beat them (the weather), join them (it).  Not an option today!  It’s very chilly, windy, and pouring rain.  I REALLY had my heart set on getting Alice’s photos taken today, so I got lucky and figured out how to use the weather to my advantage and get her photos taken.

I put Alice in the kitchen bay window, and because it’s not bright (at all) the photos came out fine.  I turned on all the warm kitchen lights, used a tripod, and used a board to block the glare on top of her head.  They’re a little darker than usual, but I think they’re cozy looking.

Alice, my Little Darling painted by Nelly Valentino, is thrilled to be able to show you her first Christmas ensemble, Christmas Caroler.  It’s a very traditional ensemble—even a little bit old-fashioned looking, which is a look I am in love with on her.

Alice’s elbow length sleeved dress is made with a tiny holly print in deep red, greens, and bits of metallic gold.  A deep red taffeta ribbon (with a brighter red edge) ties around the waist of the dress.  Tiny ecru English cotton Cluny lace peeks out at the hemline.

The natural colored lace cape is knit with lace weight baby alpaca/silk yarn for an extremely delicate piece.  It closes at the center front with a gold-filled bead and loop.  There are six full size panels on the cape; the right three panels each have a slightly different embroidery motif with the left three panels each mirroring its corresponding right panel

The vintage-styled headband hat is knit with a slightly heavier weight natural colored yarn (wool/angora). The embroidered motifs at each end mirror each other.  The headband ties under the chin on the right hand side.  The ties are different lengths so that when tied the tails are equal.

Alice’s accessories include a pair of red scarves in a deep red and a brighter red wool.  They have fringed ends.  The little sheet music is vintage looking with four different carols and a bookmark tied over the center fold.  A little gold glass ornament is tied with a matching embroidery thread loop.  The bracelet is made with garnet beads and 14k gold-filled beads.  A red shell heart charm dangles from the bracelet.  And underneath it all is a pair of red rayon Lycra® tights.

While out caroling, I’m sure all of the grandmas and moms will be pinching Alice’s cheeks and telling her what an adorable little girl she is.

“Lovin’ Autumn”

Finally… some sunshine to take photos.  Until this morning, Monday, we haven’t seen the sun since last Wednesday!  It’s been very dark and rainy, and very hard to get some good photos.

I’ve been working on a knitting pattern for ? (it’s a surprise), and taking photos of the steps along the way.  I thought they’d be okay, so kept knitting along.  You know what?  They are all terrible, in the virtual trash those photos will have to go.  Now I have to start knitting another sweater to get (hopefully) better photos.  Since the pattern is written, I can follow it to see if it all makes sense and my counts are accurate.  So, I guess it’s a good thing.  It’s turned into at least an 11 page pattern.  My notes I use when knitting this sweater fill up 1/2 of a page in my 5 x 7 knitting notebook!  See I really do work from gibberish that only I can understand.  lol

So, here is little Sugar, my Fairyland Pukipuki.  I decided I liked the sleeved dress on her after all.  If she’s posed a certain way her arms look fine, I think so anyway.  Isn’t she the cutest little thing!  I never seem to get tired of her sweet face.

Sugar’s a-line elbow length sleeved dress (hand knit in lace weight merino heather) is perfect for fall, no goose bumps on this little girl.  The embroidery on the bodice is a tiny mirrored floral motif and done in colors to coordinate with her leggings.

This cute knit fabric goes so perfectly with her dress.  I still wanted her shoes to fit, so instead of tights made some longish leggings that give the effect of tights.

Of course she found some matching fall blossoms in the woods.  We haven’t had a frost yet, thank goodness, so the flowers are still in bloom.  The silk streamers on her bouquet keep her smiling as they flutter in the breeze.

Now like the bigger girls, Sugar has her very own bangle bracelet with a dangly heart; only Sugar can wear bangle bracelets.
