Patience is “Preparing for Christmas”

This cute little elf is ready… ready to start preparing for the holidays that is.  Patience says there’s nothing like donning a Santa hat to get in the holiday spirit.  She thinks everyone should give it a try.

preparing for christmas 802I guess I’ve been hoarding this Christmas fat quarter cotton print.  I’ve had it for years and was inspired to make an ensemble with it this year.  The evergreen boughs and ornaments/berries are colorful in a warm and cozy way.  I added lots of shiny golden accents to accentuate the golden yellow berries and the light golden background.  There are quite a few shades of red in this print; perfect for adding red knitwear and two colors of berries to the sweater and hat embroidery.  And, of course, I had to add some pine green for Christmas.

“Ivy and Holly”

Last December I wrote a post about my favorite doll books, one of them being The Story of Holly & IvyYou can find that post here.  I LOVE this story, and even now while writing this blog post, this book is open in front of me.  The illustrations are so cozy and sweet, and the story is absolutely endearing about a beautiful Christmas doll who finally finds her girl.

After I completed this ensemble for my Little Darling, Gina, my daughter commented on how she was reminded of the doll, Holly, in Holly & Ivy.  Even though Gina isn’t dressed the same or even have the same color of hair she does seem like a modern day Holly.

Here is sweet Holly illustrated by Barbara Cooney.

Millie’s “Cozy Christmas Color”

My tiny (11″) Kay Wiggs illie, Millie, is here today modeling her new (and first of the season) Christmas ensemble.  Doesn’t she look festive, cozy, and warm?

cozy christmas colors 687Millie is so excited to have her very own Santa hat.  Millie says she will wear it “all the time” when helping out this holiday season.

cozy christmas colors 689Millie’s sweater is knit with mohair/silk lace weight yarn.  For the embroidery, I centered the main motifs around the petaled blossom shapes from the dress and embroidered them in a warm pink-y shade (for more distinction they are a shade or two lighter than those on the dress).  The berries are colonial knots in a deep berry red that match the dress; the stems and leaves are lazy daisy stitches and straight stitches.
