“Daisy Chain” Garlands

Did you make daisy chain garland crowns when you were young?  I remember daisies growing prolifically in the fields and along the sides of roads, but never did turn them into a garland.  Those were the days before (way before) Google, so I never knew how.  Here’s a Wikihow tutorial that I found.  It looks pretty easy.  Maybe this is the year to try it…

Gina’s new ensemble features a cotton print filled with daisies.  The colors are casual with a feeling of being out in the country.

Of course my original idea was to make Gina a daisy chain garland for her hair, but the daisies were too large and over powering for this delicate miss, so I went with a single daisy and ribbon to make a hair tie.  I like this look much better.

I found this speckled porcelain sprinkling can at a thrift store and snatched it up.  It is the perfect accessory for this ensemble, don’t you think?

Gina can also hold her bouquet of daisies separately.

I found the charm for Gina’s necklace in my stash–a little sprinkling can with a heart!  Seriously, how perfect is this charm for this ensemble!

I knit Gina’s “light as a feather” mohair cardigan to fall slightly below the waistline of her drop-waist styled dress.  I picked up the colorful pastels in the dress print to embroider a set of mirrored image floral motifs on the bottom corners of the sweater.

Millie is a “Spring Princess”

Happy first day of spring (or fall, if you’re down under).  Hopefully the weather is cooperating for you.  The sun isn’t up here in northern Illinois yet, so it’s still a surprise at our house.

It’s Millie’s turn to show you something new!

Here’s what I made with my last color way of these sweet cotton rose print fabrics.  It is a very light pastel aqua or sky blue.

This delicately colored fabric definitely needed a light as a feather mohair sweater; nothing else came close to being as perfect for it.  Since this yarn doesn’t come in the perfect shade, I hand dyed a white mohair sweater to the lightest pink.  I love the finished result, do you?

Sweet Millie has a flower bouquet for you.  Will you accept it?

Every princess needs a crown of jewels, and Millie’s jewels are on her pearl headband.

Gracie’s First Outfit

My new Kaye Wiggs MSD, Gracie, has her very first ensemble to show you…finally, sorry for the delay, but here she is now!  First of all, I am very happy to say that the only adjustment I needed to make from Talyssa’s patterns were for the length of the skirt, yay.  The two girls are thrilled to be able to share clothes.

For Gracie’s first outfit I picked out a favorite print that I used last year for Patience.  I also had this print in the pink color way and a tinier coordinating print.  You can see those outfits here, here, and here.  If you’d like to read the blog posts from those outfits they are here, here, and here.

Gracie is wearing a Kemper Raven mohair wig in blonde (8-9) and her original dark brown glass eyes.

Gracie’s sweater is knit with a pima cotton/Modal® in sport weight.  The Modal gives the yarn a slight silkiness.  Two mirrored image rose bouquet motifs are hand embroidered to coordinate with the dress.

I wished that the crystal beads I used for the buttons were a bit larger, but they went so well that I decided to use them anyway.  I added more “buttons” than I would have if they had been larger.  They are a very pretty champagne colored AB rondelle shape and added a bit of lightness and sparkle to the sweater;  the sprays of white/ecru colonial knot flowers seemed to pop a little more with these beads.  These crystals are so pretty that I used them for the basket’s tassel and Gracie’s bracelet too.

Gracie’s light blush pink headband is crocheted with beads, Czech crystals and seed beads; it has a luxurious weight to it because of the weightiness of the beads.

Gracie is a larger doll, so I was able to make a more colorful bouquet for her Victorian styled basket.  The bouquet is removable and can be held by itself as if the flowers were just picked.  A clear band holds the stems together.
