Rainy Sunday Morning

Oh, it’s been months since we’ve had a good thunderstorm!  When I woke this morning the sky was gray and I could see the approaching dark grey clouds moving in from the west.  I checked the radar on Intellicast and saw the band of rain approaching.  Yay!  We need rain so badly!  When you haven’t had rain for sooo long it is a novelty, so I grabbed my camera and went outside.  My favorite time is right before the storm starts.

Look at how dry our yard is!  We really need a good soaking.

It looks cozy and warm in our kitchen . . . and in my studio.  Do you see Gina all dressed up in “Calico Cutie”?  My dolls usually get a day or so to wear the things that I make.  Then they are naked again, and waiting for the next one.

As I’m writing this post I’m listening to the cozy sounds of rumbling in the sky and watching raindrops hitting the pool.  (My studio overlooks the pool and deck.)

Here are some other things that are going on around here.  My husband is in the process of power washing the deck.  On the recommendation of our tree trimmer we got a heavy duty power washer to clean our VERY dirty deck.  Look at the difference!

Our pool is extremely old, so we don’t want to put a lot of work into the deck, but the power washing helped make the deck feel like new, well almost.  My husband got quite a lot cleaned yesterday.  I love it!  My view from my studio is greatly improved.

Yesterday morning I spotted this chipmunk right outside my studio window.  In the 8 years we have lived here this is the first chipmunk that I have ever seen on our property.  I assumed that they stayed away because of all of feral cats roaming around.  Isn’t he/she cute!

Sorry, for the poor photo quality.  I took these through the window and  cropped them.  The chipmunk was pretty close to the house though; I had the wrong lens on my camera.  Can you tell I love the little critters?!

On Friday I was working on a crocheted beret for the Little Darlings.  It looks cute on Alice, but I think it is a little small.  I will use it for either Millie or Ann Estelle/Patsy.  Another day I will crochet another one for the Little Darlings, but make it a little larger.

I ended up knitting Alice a beret in the same yarn that I used for the sweater; I like it much better.  I hope to have that outfit to show you soon.

The sky is already brightening, and I see a bit of blue out west.  Hope you have (having) a beautiful Sunday!

Bye for now!

Moving Slow, Moving Along

Do you remember this photo???

I took this photo before leaving for Florida an entire month ago!  Prior to leaving, I spent the week sewing dresses with the hope that I could knit the sweaters while away from my studio, which I did, but the finishing up seems to be taking forever; I am finding that it is hard to get back into the flow and feel of creating.

Today I am finally starting on the completion of the last ensemble.  My hope is that when Gina’s ensemble is finished I will be able to get back in the groove.

Here are the other four finished ensembles (in case you missed them).  Alice is modeling the green floral ensemble called “Flower Picking”.  Alice arrived days after I returned home.  (I actually got notice from Nelly that Alice was complete somewhere on interstate 75 in Georgia.)  Lucy graciously let her new sister model this ensemble.  This outfit was purchased by Cara’s mom.  Cara’s photo is on my Facebook page here.

Gracie’s ensemble called “Rose Trellis” was just completed late last week.

Here is Patsy’s “Bitsy Blossoms”.  It was purchased for Ann Estelle, but Bitty Bethany snatched it and doesn’t seem to want to take it off.  You can see my customer’s photo on my Facebook page here also.

And, just completed is Millie’s “Cutie in the Garden” ensemble.  Millie’s ensemble is still available on my website here.

This is the progress on Gina’s ensemble so far.  I made a quick drawing of the embroidery design; we’ll see how closely I actually stick to the preliminary design.  I have the embroidery thread colors all picked out and ready to go, so this is my project for the day.

I wish you all a lovely day!  Bye for now.

Making Room for New

As I mentioned in my last post, we got back from our “vacation” in Florida late Friday night.  I put vacation in quotes because it wasn’t really a vacation in the sense that we think of vacations.

My entire family—brother, sisters, their husbands and wife, all my nieces and nephews—all gathered for my parent’s memorial service last weekend.  My dad passed away in February and my mom in April.  It took this long for everyone to be able to be together, and that was the most beautiful thing, that we were all together to celebrate my parent’s life!  So, even though it was a sad weekend because they weren’t with us in body, they were with us in spirit.  I know it made them happy that we were all together.

My sisters and I also had the job of going through their home and either donating or taking things that we wanted to keep with us.  We donated bags and bags of basic items, but those special things that had memories for us got saved.

My mom loved music, and while planning my parent’s memorial mass, we couldn’t remember if my mom’s favorite song was Ave Maria or Amazing Grace, so we had both at their mass.  Afterwards, I found a little music box, that plays a song as you wind the crank, in my mom’s dresser.  I thought it was cute, so took it home with me not knowing the song it played.  When I got home I took the time to listen to its tune—it played Ave Maria.  Okay, Mom, I get it, Ave Maria was your favorite. ❤ ❤ ❤

There were a few sets of items that needed to be divided up because the memories were so dear.  For instance, a set of porcelain ducks and bunnies, four total—two of each, my sister and I each took a duck, and my other sister took the set of bunnies.  My mom couldn’t part with the bunnies either; she inherited them when my grandmother passed, so she had all four pieces.  These were Easter table decorations from when I was quite young; the ducks were at our house and the bunnies were at my grandparent’s house.

My little duck will be residing in this display cabinet.  He will hang out with the two Kitchen Fairies, which were gifts to my mom from my daughter.

My mom’s two squirrels (the larger squirrels) are visiting us at the moment.  They will travel around visiting other family members throughout the years (my brother’s creative idea!).  They even made a new squirrel friend at our house.  Hmm, wonder where they will go next.

It was a full weekend finding the perfect spot for our new mementos.  Being surrounded by some of my parent’s things is like a warm hug from them both; everywhere I look are memories of them.

I felt since I was bringing in so much new, I had to get rid of some of the old, so we went through our stuff and donated what we no longer wanted or needed.

As far as dolly related working goes, this is all I managed to get done over the past couple of weeks—five sweaters knitted!  I will get them blocked today . . . at least.  Don’t they look a mess right off the needles?  Thank goodness for blocking.

Well, I’d better get started with my day.  I need to go to the post office and collect two weeks worth of mail, yikes.  As for dolly things, hopefully, I’ll be able to do more than block those sweaters.

Have a great day everyone!  Thanks for reading.

Oh, I have a new doll on the way!  I can’t wait to introduce her to you!
