Gosh, I do. Well . . . sort of.
I remember how much fun it was being allowed to pick out any box of valentines I wanted at the store and addressing them to my friends. I know these days that if you give one valentine, you give to all. I don’t remember that being done when I was young. This is sad, but some classmates wouldn’t get as many valentines as other classmates. Some only got a few. 😦
I also remember the big box with a slit in the top that had been decorated for Valentine’s Day. At the start of the school day, we would “mail” our Valentines in the box. When it came time for our party, one or two students would be in charge of passing out the cards. We would sit at our desks anticipating the delivery of our valentines. I hate to say this, but I have a vague memory of students counting the number of valentines they received and comparing them to the amount their other classmates received.
Thankfully, times have changed and everyone is treated fairly, but the excitement of wondering who you will receive a valentine from is gone. Now it’s all about the candy and who can resist candy?
My Little Darling, Gina, has been “shopping” for her valentines at Grandma’s house. Grandma had all sorts of vintage valentines left over from long long ago. Gina has a bag full and has her pencil ready to start writing out, “Love, Gina”. There’s even one for her teacher.

Hi Cindy,
What a cute little dress you’ve made for Gina! I DO remember those days in grade school where you decorated your Valentine box and dropped in your Valentines. It was so much fun and I always had fun making my box. I even did a listing one time where Molly was making her box for school. I had been thinking of doing one again, and here, today you’ve beat me! I LOVE the little cards…much like what I used to give and receive.
This is just an adorable post! Loved it!
Blessings, Jeanne
Thank you, Jeanne. Yes, those cards bring back warm memories, don’t they? I don’t remember decorating our own individual boxes. I only remember the teacher having one big one which was the “mailbox”. Maybe we did decorate our own and I forgot that part. It sounds right because otherwise where would we have put our valentines. Thanks for adding your memories. Hope to see your little box for your dolls.
love the new into pic!
Thanks, Nikki! 🙂
