Happy New Week Everyone!

As I’m sitting in my kitchen writing this blog post I see blue jays flying by, each with a peanut in their beak.  My husband filled the bird feeder this weekend.  I daresay they’ve practically cleaned out the peanuts . . . already.

Look at the shadows!  We have a sunny day!  I know it’s no big deal for some of you, but it’s only the third one since January 14th; and we’ve waited 9 days to see the sun this time.  It’s amazing what the sunshine can do for your spirits!

My weekend work consisted of knitting this cardigan.  I wanted to create a marled effect, and I think it worked out rather nicely.  I held together two strands of yarn throughout; it’s a bit fiddly to make sure you are getting both strands with each stitch.  I got used to the “feel” when made properly, so when I would forget a strand I would know right away and could correct it.

Knitwear is pretty messy right off the needles, aren’t they?  The sweater is blocking right now, and already looks neater.  I hope to get the dress sewn today.  (Ha ha!  Well, started at least.)  This ensemble will be for Gracie and Talyssa, Kaye Wiggs’s MSDs.

Yesterday my husband and I went to a dog show at the county fairgrounds.  I needed a happiness boost (after all the sunless days), and dogs do the trick for me.  When I saw the golden retrievers I got a little teary eyed though.  It’s been about 8 months since we lost our last girl, and I miss her still.

You can see goldens are quite popular; at least where I live.  They were all over the place at this show.  A lot of professional handlers were here and each had many of them in their care.

(Sorry, for the bad quality photos, iPhone and hand shakiness.)  My husband and I both picked number one out of this group of goldens.  They are all beautiful, but the winner had that extra something.

After watching the golden retrievers, we spent most of our time watching these teensy tiny cuties.

We are still new to Chihuahuas, so cannot pick out the winners as easily as we can the goldens.  The Chihuahuas are all equally perfect to me.  I’ll take them all!  Ha ha!  My guy wouldn’t be too happy with that arrangement.

We also watched the corgis go around the ring.  We both were wondering where their tails were.  I Googled it!  The Pembroke Welsh corgis are born without tails have their tails removed a few days after birth, and the Cardigan Welsh corgis have keep them.  (Thanks for the updated information, Judi!)  We also watched the huge mastiffs and St. Bernards (who could miss these two breeds!).  Oh my goodness, those breeds are huge!  I need to be able to pick up my dog, and these days my back says the lighter the better.

Oh, one more thing, this was in my inbox from Kelly at livelaughrowe.com this morning.  I printed out the February calendar and have it in my studio.  These words are so perfect for “now” and  something I want to read every day in February. ❤  I included the link in case you’d like to print one out too.

I hope you all have a wonderful and sunny week.  Thanks for visiting.  Bye for now!

Worth Waiting For

I’m shouting this from the rooftops, “The sun is out today!”  After 6 straight days of fog and gloom, we’ve got a beauty.  And the icing on the cake is that it’s 55°F (13°C), but I must say it feels like 70°F (21°C).  Woo hoo!  Where I live, these days are a rare occurrence in January.  I hope you are enjoying beautiful weather today as well.

I couldn’t let today go by without a few photos.  Notice the harsh shadows, so very sunny.

And the blue sky!

Our grass is still quite green for January.  It feels like spring is right around the corner.  Ha!

I almost have Patsy’s “Light Cardigan” knitting pattern ready to be published.  The sample I knit up for the pattern was part of my “Blossoms for my Love-ly” ensemble.  There will be a short sleeve  option in the instructions as well.

I’ve just begun a “Light Cardigan” pattern for the Little Darlings too.  This one will have three length options with shaping for a nice a-line shape that flows along the body.  I’ll also have three sleeve length options in the instructions, so a total of 9 different possibilities will be available with this pattern.

Our resident feral kitty was soaking up some sun today.

Bye for now, and thank you so much for reading my blog, my friends!

Hello To You

I don’t have anything finished to show you; I simply wanted to say hi, share a few photos, and let you know what I’m working on.  I have a very optimistic “to do” list for today, so this will be short.  Whenever I feel things are taking too long to get finished I bring out my pad of paper and break down, into steps, what I hope to get done in a given day.

Today, I plan on finishing a dress for Patsy/Ann Estelle.  The skirt is all gathered and pinned to the bodice; I just need to sew the two pieces together.  Then, I will hand stitch the facing, sew on the snaps and buttons.  Next, the sweater needs to be sewn up at the underarm and I’ll weave in the ends.  I really want to complete the embroidery for the sweater.  Not sure that will happen, but it’s on the list.

As for my weekend, that involved bringing my daughter back to school.  My “baby” is all tucked in at college to begin her second semester.  I guess it was easier leaving her there this time than in August.  But, it was still by no means easy!  I’m not sure it will ever be easy.  I keep telling myself that to miss her so very much means that I love having her around so very much, a blessing that is.  Yes!

We are still in the thick of dreary weather.  Yesterday morning we had freezing rain which, thank goodness, turned to rain as the temperature warmed above freezing later in the day.  We are experiencing temps this week which are warmer than normal for this time of year.  Yay!  We even had a thunderstorm during the night!  It sounded like springtime!

This was taken yesterday morning.  I’m glad the bird feeder was empty; those icicles look dangerous.

There’s nothing like orchids starting to bloom to lift the spirits.

In my studio Tulah is still playing Barbies, and has adopted a little chihuahua.  We’re currently working on names for her poodle and her chihuahua.  She’s quite an indecisive little doll.

01-17-2017-981

I think I’ve shown you this doll (pattern here) before as I’ve made her years and years ago.  She is made from a free pattern by Emily Martin (Black Apple).  She is a calming presence in my studio, always relaxed with a little smile on her face.  Dolly is all decked out in a Big Ann Estelle scarf and a crocheted rose brooch by Alla Koval (My Little City Girl), both also made years ago.

This crochet hook set was a Christmas present, and I can’t wait to use them.  They are the tiny sizes for use with crochet thread.  I’ll use them for crocheting flowers, purses, and other accessories.  Those handle colors are ❤ !

Sitting around my studio is a beret for Patience which never got used (yet, anyway) and Little Darling fingerless mitts.  This fabric is something I purchased late summer (I think) and can’t wait to use.  It’s not Liberty fabric, but that is what the prints remind me of.  Sorry, I can’t remember the name of the collection.  I am sure it’s a Japanese fabric though.

Well, I had better get to work on my list!  I’ve enjoyed chatting with you today.  Wishing you all a wonderful week!

Thank you for visiting!  Bye for now.
