Welcome Gracie!

Months ago I preordered my first 18″ MSD Kaye Wiggs doll from Jpop Dolls.  Gracie was a new sculpt of Kaye’s and her beautiful face stole my heart.  She was available in two resin colors:  natural and sunkissed, three body sizes:  17″ (Talyssa, Mei Mei), 18″, and Toby size.  I chose the sunkissed resin on the 18″ body.

I decided on the sunkissed resin because, for me, it is easier to photograph and looks great with everything.  My Millie is sunkissed and Talyssa is natural resin, so I’ve had a chance to compare the two.  Kaye’s sunkissed color is actually the same value as a Little Darling, so it is not dark at all.  If you’d like to see both you can view my slideshow for each doll on my website.  Here is Millie and here is Talyssa’s slideshow (you can click on the slideshow photos to see more of that particular ensemble if you’d like).  What do you think?

Gracie arrived last Friday!  I didn’t have any clothes for her to wear, but that didn’t stop me from taking some photos of her with her new “sister”, Talyssa.  Please excuse the nude shots.  I thought it was okay because they are dolls after all.  (lol)  Gracie and Talyssa became fast friends, just like Gina and Lucy, my Little Darlings, did last November.  You can see Lucy’s welcome photos here.

I was so happy to receive brown eyes for Gracie, my first!  I put Talyssa in her natural (the color she arrived in) eye color.  Both girls wear 8″-9″ sized wigs and 15mm(Eyeco platinum)-16mm eyes, so can share.  I’m hoping they can share clothes as well.  I am currently making an ensemble using Talyssa’s patterns, so we will see if any adjustments are needed.

Gracie and Talyssa are both standing for these photos, so you can see the slight height difference.  Their resin colors are very close in value.

For those of you interested in preordering Penny who is now available in tan, but aren’t sure about the tan resin, here is what I found out about the tan resin from Jpop Dolls.  Kaye’s sunkissed resin color is only used for her dolls; tan Penny is a little darker and not as warm in hue.  If you know the old Sasha dolls (sorry, I don’t) tan Penny is lighter than those.  They mentioned that this tan resin is not dark at all compared to other tans that they use.

Hope your week is off to a great start!  Are you as AMAZED as I am that this is the last week of February? Spring is right around the corner!  Yay!

Bye for now, reader friends.

“My Forever Snowman” for Millie

Our snow is long gone here.  In fact, it has been so mild; it feels like Thanksgiving is weeks away, not Christmas.  No, I am not complaining, the cold and snow will come to stay for many months, it always does.  In the meantime, I am thoroughly enjoying this gift of nice and easy weather.

Since we don’t have snow outside, Millie is here with her snowman that lasts on and on and on, he’s her forever snowman.  I made him myself in my studio, so he is filled with hugs and love, and ready to “snowify” your day.

my forever snowman 965I didn’t name him; that is for his new girl to do, so I’ll just keep referring to him as the snowman.  The snowman is made completely by hand out of wool felt, embroidery thread, beads, mohair yarn.  I wanted to get his expression just right, so that your heart would “melt” a little when you gazed into his deep dark eyes.  Did I succeed?

The snowman’s hat is so tiny that it is half the width of Amelia Thimble’s!  I made it with the same hand dyed merino and white mohair that I recently used for Amelia Thimble and Sugar’s sets.  The scarf is crocheted using matching yarn from Millie’s dress.  Snowman’s arms are knit with tan mohair and have loop hands for holding.  Here he is holding a sequin snowflake and a beaded candy cane that I made years ago.  He is gently stuffed with plastic doll making pellets, so he has a bean bag feel to him.

Millie’s hand knit wool dress has a sprinkling of snowflakes:  mohair colonial knots, delicately embroidered star-shaped flakes, icy clear seed beads, and clear sequins with white seed beads. The snowflakes fall in a pattern from the left shoulder down and around the appliquéd snowman which is sitting above the “fur” trim off to the right.  He’s super tiny, but cute.my forever snowman 992

Waking Up to a Winter Wonderland

We’ve had lots of moisture since Thanksgiving, but since it’s been above freezing it has been rain.  Last night it fell below freezing, so we are waking up to a winter wonderland.  It is truly beautiful, and… my favorite kind of snow, melting.

It’s very cozy and warm inside.  Our large Christmas tree is to the left of this photo.  This little tree is my “sweets” tree where I hang vintage cookie cutters and yummy looking ornaments.morning snow 930

It’s very timely that I just finished this winter set for my Kaye Wiggs Millie.  This set was fun to make, love this color so much, a heathered sky blue.  Millie is hanging on tight to her stuffed snowman that I made her.  I think she’s afraid she may have to give it up and share with it another little girl.

We often say in Chicago that if you don’t like the current weather, wait 5 minutes and it will change.  While this change didn’t happen in 5 minutes, this was yesterday morning.

The snow that we have this morning will be gone very soon, we’re getting warmer.

Have a great day and thank you so much for reading my blog and commenting.  I love hearing from you.
