Little Lady in Lilac

I’ve never dressed Millie in anything purple or lilac and I really like her in it, don’t you?  To me, she looks like a southern belle all dressed up for Easter, a Sunday outing, or even a garden wedding.

When I started making this outfit for Millie I thought I would have to keep the color palette to purples, but I noticed that the roses had the lightest of pinks in them.  I found that pink went beautifully with the sweater so kept it as my primary embroidery color.  I used the pale pink again for the ribbon tie, purse, tights, and hat.  It really warms up the lilac color and livens up what could have been a monochromatic ensemble.

‘Tis the Season of Green, of Greening, and New Growth

St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner.  When I was growing up this holiday wasn’t celebrated unless one was Irish (or that’s what I was told).  Not being Irish, St. Patrick’s Day came and went in my family.  These days everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day and March is the month of green.

I do love green even though I cannot wear most shades of it.  I think teal or turquoise are my only choices, but it’s the spring greens, the mint greens, and yellow greens that I love so much.  Put those colors next to my face and it’s not a good look to say it nicely.  Put those colors on my fair skinned Talyssa and magic happens.  She is truly a gal that looks wonderful in green.  So naturally, she was my choice to receive something new during this 2015 season of green.

Talyssa wanted a little posy to hold. I made her this one with crocheted blossoms and used macrame to combine all of “stems” together. I also wanted to bring more pink into the outfit.

Roses First Bloom

When I had a rose garden the first bloom cycle in the spring was the most abundant and beautiful.  It seemed like every rose bush was in bloom at the same time.  This year I would love to catch this first bloom at one (or all) of the rose garden I often visit.  I’ll admit that right now with snow on the ground and frigid air whipping up the snow outside roses blooming in a garden seem like a very distant happening.

It is so rewarding that I can make roses bloom in my studio whenever I wish.  This past week I made Kaye Wiggs Millie this very rosy ensemble.  Not only is Millie a smaller BJD she is also petite so this small rose print worked perfectly for her.  Her cardigan is wooly and warm, but is also colorful, and sure to brighten up your world.
