This Week

Hello to you!  I hope you are staying healthy, happy, and busy… at home.  I’ve been finding that it really isn’t hard to fill the days spent at home.  My daily, or almost daily, activities are feeding/walking the dog(s), walking me, exercises to keep my back pain free, meditating, cooking/baking, chores, more puppy playtime.  And then if I still have energy I will get some knitting or doll ensemble creating accomplished.

I finished the cardigan that I’ve been working on for the Kaye Wiggs MSD girls this week.   The embroidery needed to be finished and then the underarm seam sewn up.  I like to leave it open in case I want to add some embroidery to the sleeves.  Lastly, I added white pearl buttons.

I can’t decide what to make for the ensemble’s headpiece.  Thinking about that…  I have some pastel rosy colored rayon knit for the panties and thigh highs.  I could sew those next while I am deciding on a headband, hair ties, or a hat.  Sorry about the harsh lighting on the photos.  It has been really dark outside.  I had a halogen floor lamp lighting up my work.  The lamp doesn’t produce the prettiest photos.

My daughter and I started a joint coloring project last week.  Now, she is busy, busy, busy with online classes, so I finished it up today.  I titled it “Rainbows of Hope”.  We all need lots of that these days, don’t we?  I noticed one of my neighbors had a large sign with the word ‘hope’ in her front window too.  We are all in this together.

Earlier today I looked through my stuffed animal and felt books.  I snapped a few photos of the pages that grabbed my attention.  I thought I’d share them with you.

These felt cuties would be perfect little toys for our dolls.  They are tiny and flat-ish to easily slide under a dolly arm.  The ‘Mushroom Girl’ is my favorite.

‘Tis NOT the season for Christmas, but some of these can be made appropriate for springtime or get a head start on Christmas making.

This book contains more tiny felt animals.  My favorite project is the bunny rabbit wearing a dress.

I am drawn to “Sew Me, Love Me” because it uses recycled materials… and they have clothes to make for them.  What fun to make an animal with its own wardrobe, and using bits of your old things too!

The following are needle felting books.  The pieces are adorable, don’t you think?

‘Little Miss Crafty’!  Do you see yourself in her?

book wee felt worlds 5443

My girls saw ‘Little Miss Crafty’ and want me to make them each a dolly of their own.  Maybe a tiny rag doll with floppy arms and legs–one that is huggable.  Wouldn’t that be sweet?

I hope you (maybe) got a spark of inspiration from my books.  Thank you for browsing along with me.  I enjoyed going through them with you.

Northern Illinois is expecting some bad weather tonight.  Please pray for us, or send us positive thoughts, that no one loses their homes or lives or family members.  I don’t know if we humans can take any more bad things happening all at once.

Have a great week–stay safe! ❤

Santa’s Helpers

I presently have six different dolls all dressed up in Christmas ensembles, and the poor things have nowhere to go.  How about posing for some photos, girls?  Let’s show everyone how cute you all are.  Say cheese!

Even though all six dolls are of different proportions and sizes, I think they all look adorable together, don’t you, too?

While the girls were modeling, I put them to “work” by having them add some Christmas spirit to my studio.  Sugar (Fairyland Pukipuki) and Amelia Thimble brought around the jingle bells so that we all can add our own holiday ring-a-linging.  Patience and Millie (by Kaye Wiggs) made tiny everlasting snowmen, and Rose (Boneka/Effner) brought some  “heart” into the mix.  Ivy, a handmade mohair bear from Warm Heart Bears showed she had some real paper cutting skills.  How cute are those paper snowflakes!  Great job, Ivy!  Even the Christmas stripe-y dachshund carried a wreath for hanging.

We had a fun day today!

Patience’s ensemble (SOLD) and Millie’s ensemble are currently available on my website.  Sugar, Amelia Thimble, and Rose’s will be available this coming weekend and into next week.  Be sure to keep an eye out here and on Facebook if you are interested.

I hope that you are enjoying this first week of the holiday season.  I love this time before Christmas; there’s anticipatory magic in the air.

“Little Frosty”

Millie, my Kaye Wiggs 11″ BJD, is here today to welcome the new week and say hello to you all.  Millie is not minding the frosty weather we are currently “enjoying” in northern Illinois one bit; after all, she is dressed for it, and has a little buddy who was made for this weather.

Millie wears a dress made out of a teeny tiny snowman/Christmas tree print.  This cotton print is from Japan.  French cotton lace that looks like tiny snowflakes edges the hemline.

Millie’s cardigan sweater is knit with a beautiful pine green merino/silk lace yarn.  Bright red holly and leaves are hand embroidered on the cardigan’s front panels.  Bright red glass bead buttons add to the festive feel of this cardigan.

Millie’s cute hat is knit (in the round) with a heavier weight of the same type of green yarn.  I added a wide border of “fur” trim in baby mohair/silk lace yarn.  Just for fun, and because Millie’s personality called for it,  her “fur” pom pom dangles from the top of her hat with a couple of bright red jingle bells completing this fun hat.  Can you hear them jingling?

Little Frosty is needle felted with wool and hand made by me.  He wears a tiny elf hat (knit in the round) that matches Millie’s.  Another bright red jingle bell can be found on the top of his hat.  His features are created with Delica and seed beads which have been carefully sewn on to give him the perfect look.  A tiny yarn “scarf” is looped around his neck.

Millie’s other accessories include a red wool scarf with mohair fringe, bright red rayon tights, and a minty striped bracelet with a heart and bell dangle.

“Little Frosty” will be available tonight (November 13, 2017) at 7:00 pm CST, cindyricedesigns.com.

I hope all of you have a great start to the week!  Enjoy!
