“Cutie in the Garden”

Look who was roaming around the garden yesterday!  It’s Millie, my Kaye Wiggs 11″ BJD.

Millie wanted to have her photo shoot in the grass, and surrounded by flowers.  I said okay, even though it’s physically harder to take photos “way down there”.  I thought I’d give it a shot though; I didn’t want to disappoint my tiny Millie.  I found the perfect spot in the shade of our apple tree and gave a small patch of lawn a hair cut, so she wouldn’t get swallowed up by grass.  I brought out my yoga mat to lay on, but sitting on the grass was the perfect height.  I was actually quite comfortable once I got situated.

You might recognize this fabric.  I used it for an ensemble for the Little Darlings earlier this year.  Here is Lucy modeling “Pink Happiness” in case you want to see it again.

Millie’s little cardigan is knit with blush pink lace weight baby alpaca/silk yarn.  It’s super soft!  Ivory/pink roses pink up the background ivory of the dress.  I added a tiny bit of pastel sky blue embroidery.  It’s in the print, but is very light.

Millie’s headband includes a crocheted ivory rose made with very fine cotton.  A hand made bow is tucked underneath the rose for added prettiness.

I haven’t used my park bench for a photo shoot in a long time.  I used to use it all the time when Bethany was getting lots of attention.  The seat is a little deep for Millie, but she tried very hard to sit up straight for me.

Millies is such a feminine little miss, isn’t she?

“Cutie in the Garden” will be available tonight (June 28, 2016), 7:00 pm CST at cindyricedesigns.com.  At that time you can go to my “Shop What’s New” page for more information.

Millie is a “Spring Princess”

Happy first day of spring (or fall, if you’re down under).  Hopefully the weather is cooperating for you.  The sun isn’t up here in northern Illinois yet, so it’s still a surprise at our house.

It’s Millie’s turn to show you something new!

Here’s what I made with my last color way of these sweet cotton rose print fabrics.  It is a very light pastel aqua or sky blue.

This delicately colored fabric definitely needed a light as a feather mohair sweater; nothing else came close to being as perfect for it.  Since this yarn doesn’t come in the perfect shade, I hand dyed a white mohair sweater to the lightest pink.  I love the finished result, do you?

Sweet Millie has a flower bouquet for you.  Will you accept it?

Every princess needs a crown of jewels, and Millie’s jewels are on her pearl headband.

“My Forever Snowman” for Millie

Our snow is long gone here.  In fact, it has been so mild; it feels like Thanksgiving is weeks away, not Christmas.  No, I am not complaining, the cold and snow will come to stay for many months, it always does.  In the meantime, I am thoroughly enjoying this gift of nice and easy weather.

Since we don’t have snow outside, Millie is here with her snowman that lasts on and on and on, he’s her forever snowman.  I made him myself in my studio, so he is filled with hugs and love, and ready to “snowify” your day.

my forever snowman 965I didn’t name him; that is for his new girl to do, so I’ll just keep referring to him as the snowman.  The snowman is made completely by hand out of wool felt, embroidery thread, beads, mohair yarn.  I wanted to get his expression just right, so that your heart would “melt” a little when you gazed into his deep dark eyes.  Did I succeed?

The snowman’s hat is so tiny that it is half the width of Amelia Thimble’s!  I made it with the same hand dyed merino and white mohair that I recently used for Amelia Thimble and Sugar’s sets.  The scarf is crocheted using matching yarn from Millie’s dress.  Snowman’s arms are knit with tan mohair and have loop hands for holding.  Here he is holding a sequin snowflake and a beaded candy cane that I made years ago.  He is gently stuffed with plastic doll making pellets, so he has a bean bag feel to him.

Millie’s hand knit wool dress has a sprinkling of snowflakes:  mohair colonial knots, delicately embroidered star-shaped flakes, icy clear seed beads, and clear sequins with white seed beads. The snowflakes fall in a pattern from the left shoulder down and around the appliquéd snowman which is sitting above the “fur” trim off to the right.  He’s super tiny, but cute.my forever snowman 992
