Back in My Studio Again

After three weeks of not stepping foot inside of my studio, I am back this morning.  I talked about my absence here.  I’ve missed my space, and being surrounded with all of my supplies used for creating cute things.  When I opened the door to my studio for the first time this year, I felt all of the possibilities surrounding me, a sweet feeling.  I took a deep breath and thought how good it feels to be home.

So, in addition to being back in my studio, I am back in the cold and snow.  It’s okay, though, I enjoyed many nice winter walks in southern Florida.

We had quite a few cloudy and cool days in Florida.  This was one of the few “blue sky days”.

I included this preserve on my walking route.  Isn’t it pretty?

It looks wintery, but the temperature isn’t at all, it’s so mild.

While in Florida we had tornado warnings and watches… and no basement.  Most homes have basements in Illinois, so I felt a bit vulnerable not having anywhere but a closet or bathroom to take shelter in.

This little guy seemed tame and so cute!  I was sorry I didn’t have a couple of peanuts for him.

Okay, back to my studio.  I hope to get Gina’s sweater dress finished today!

Hope you enjoy your day no matter where you are, cold, hot, or inbetween.

Bye for now!

Fabric Delivery

One of the reasons I love to do what I do is the “need” for fabric.  I cannot sew a dress without fabric.  And, really I don’t have that much.  Ha ha!  These days so many illustrators are putting their super sweet designs onto fabric and it’s impossible to resist them, you know?  And then there’e that “gotta fill up the shopping cart to get free shipping” thing.

My fabric stash is growing quicker than I can use it.  I have to slow down, really I do.  Another ha ha, I’m afraid.

When I know a new order of fabric is being delivered it is a very exciting day for me.  All that new inspiration coming to my studio… it’s so, well inspiring!

If you’d like some of my homegrown tips on selecting fabric for doll clothes, I talked about it in this post here.

Now, if only I can add twice as many hours to my day I’d be all set.

Bye for now!

Tiny Work Going On and More

I’ve been working on winter white Christmas sets for Pupipuki Sugar and Amelia Thimble.  I thought that a white on white combination would be something different.

10-25-15 004Last night (so I could get right to work this morning without procrastinating) I did a few quick drawings of little motifs for embroidery.  It worked, and I got right down to business early this morning.

embroidery christmas 016Even though I use my “patterns” from the last time when I start knitting or crocheting a new piece the results can vary.  In this case Sugar’s dress seemed a tad short.  Some tiny lace tights solved the “too much bare leg” problem.  These are super tiny, but cute on her chubby li’l legs.

sugar amelia christmas 019I just started another knitting/crocheting notebook, it’s the top book.  Everything I have knit or crocheted within the last 4+ years is written in these books!  In addition to writing out “patterns” I also document the date, doll made for, needle size, type/color of yarn, embroidery colors/strands.  These notes make it easy to go back and remake something or remake something with changes that I want to incorporate in the new piece.
