“Teddy ‘n Me and the Apple Tree”

Hello everyone!  Oh my, I’ve been absent for a while, haven’t I?  Sorry I haven’t been around to chat with you all.  My excuse is that I got on a Craftsy kick again.  I purchased a few knitting related classes, so I’ve been preoccupied with learning some new skills and practicing them.  If I could only do one craft I think it’d be knitting.  I could give up sewing, embroidering, crocheting, but not knitting.

After my Little Darling, Gina, saw Lucy and Alice dressed up in their apple themed ensembles she got really sad until I made her one too.  I cannot stand these tiny beauties sad!  Good things come to those who wait though; the teddy bear was an afterthought, but made Gina extra happy!  Doesn’t his golden color work perfectly with this set?

I customized Gina’s teddy bear with a little bow, a crocheted scarf, and an apple button.  While we’re on the subject of accessories, Gina’s red delicious apple is kept safe in her crocheted apple cozy.

Gina’s light as a feather knit cardi is made with baby alpaca/silk lace weight yarn in a beautiful golden yellow.  Little red bullion stitched embroidered apples decorate the front and wooden beads are used for buttons.

Gina’s beret is knit with a slightly heavier red wool.  It is knit in the round without seams.  The golden yellow rayon ribbon and English cotton Cluny lace were hand dyed to match this set.

Do you recognize this fabric?  It is the same print (by Elea Lutz) I used for ” ‘Tis Apple Picking Season”, but in the white colorway.  When they’re this cute who can buy just one!

In case you’d like to see all three of my Little Darlings side by side in their apple themed ensembles . . .

Lucy’s “Apple Orchard Darling” is here, and Alice’s ” ‘Tis Apple Picking Season” blog post is here.

Thanks for visiting with me today!

“Just Peachy”

Summertime means peach time!  Who loves peaches?  In my opinion, peaches (and other summer fruits) are one of the best things about summer.  Do you agree?

Miss Patsy is feeling mighty peachy today.  It’s her turn to model my newest ensemble, and I think she likes it.  Look at that smile…!!!

Patsy’s hand knit cardi and crocheted beret are made with natural colored bamboo thread. This ensemble started with her beret.  I originally made it for my Little Darling, Alice, from a pattern I had made for the Kish Chrysalis dolls many years ago.  Here’s that VERY colorful beret.  I don’t think I’d make it this colorful again—I had 30 ends to weave in.  Ugh!

When I was knitting this beret for Alice I thought it would end up too big, so stopped a couple of rows short from what the pattern said to do.  (I’ll have to try again to make it for the Little Darlings.)  It ended up being a tad too tiny for Alice, but looked perfect on Patsy.

The sweater has a sprinkling of blossoms in colors from the dress print.  I added tiny opal colored seed beads to the centers of the salmon blossoms so that they would pop.

Patsy wanted a tiny drawstring purse to complete her ensemble.  I had the exact shade of cotton thread.  It matched the hand dyed rayon ribbon used for the waistline sash and the hand made bow on the beret.  I love the the light peachy pink mixed with the pure peach and salmon.  Patsy’s tights are a more pastel version of peach.

Patsy’s euphoria wearing her new ensemble didn’t last long as Sophie wanted to try it on.  As you can see it looks cute on Sophie too.  Sophie’s coloring actually is better suited to this ensemble, but don’t tell Patsy that.

My “Calico Cutie”

Usually I cannot remember the names of fabric collections that I use for my outfits.  I get asked quite often, and I’m sorry to say that I just don’t remember, especially when it has been in my stash for a while.  The name of this fabric, however, stuck with me because it was named after one of my favorite childhood television shows and books, Little House on the Prairie.

I was probably older than the target audience when this show first aired, but still loved the cozy peek into pioneer life.  My younger sister, who was really into this show had the book, so I also read that.  I’ve been enamored with log cabins lit with cozy fireplaces ever since.

This tiny calico print is filled with shades of purply flowers on a navy ground.  You all know I love every single shade of purple, but I don’t work with navy blue too much.  When I received this fabric I wasn’t thrilled with it (it seemed too dark to me), but it looked so pretty with this lilac mohair sweater, so I took a chance and made this fabric into a dress.  I am glad I used it!  It is a different look for Gina.  In fact, I love her in this dress set!

Gina’s light as a feather mohair/silk sweater matches the beret which is knit in a heavier weight of Peruvian wool.  I preferred the “less fluffy” fiber for her beret.  I am now quite comfortable knitting in the round, so that is how I knit Gina’s beret.  A simple white silk ribbon bow and bead decorate the beret.

I had this ribbon in my stash which was the perfect color to accent the waistline of the dress.

My newly acquired white tassel styled cotton lace from England looked perfect with this print.

Of course Gina wanted a little bouquet to give you.  She picked deep purple and white blossoms which she tied together with white silk streamers, and a bow made with matching embroidery thread.
