“Color Me Sunny”

Hello all!  I have a new ensemble to show you today.  Lucy, my Little Darling, is here to model it for you.

My newest ensemble is yellow!  To be honest, yellow isn’t a color I gravitate towards using often.  I don’t know why I don’t choose yellow more often; it’s such a happy and warm color.

Sometimes when I am least excited about sewing with a fabric, well, that’s when I am pleasantly surprised.  While creating this ensemble all the pieces fell easily in place, and I grew more and more excited about it.  Lucy’s radiant smile doesn’t hurt either.

The golden yellow roses on this print are simple, only a couple of shades, but very pretty.  The feel of the fabric is wonderful too, softer than most other cotton prints; it may be a combed cotton.  The background is a warm white, so I chose matching English cotton Cluny lace to decorate the skirt’s hemline.

The golden yellow mohair/silk lace yarn in my stash went beautifully with this print.  I chose to knit a simple lace capelet and embroider warm white roses with yellow centers randomly on the panels.  The capelet closes at the neckline with a golden yellow pearl and loop.

Lucy’s lace rose hair tie is made with the same lace as used for the dress.  The center is decorated with another golden yellow glass pearl.  I had the perfect green shades of wool felt, so used it to make two leaf shapes, and a little cotton crochet chain bow adds daintiness.  Instead of tying the hair tie into the hair, it simply slips into the hair with a hand made bobby pin.

Gina has picked a sunny yellow bouquet for you.  It is tied with nylon English cotton Cluny lace and matching pale yellow rayon ribbon.

This ensemble called for pretty jewelry.  I made a choker with Czech glass crystals, 14k gold-filled beads, foil lined Delica beads.  The beads are strung on jewelry thread with bead tips to hide the knots.  I crafted a hook out of gold-filled wire to make closing the choker as easy as possible.  The bracelet is made with the same crystals and gold beads.  A delicate heart that matches the other golden yellow pearls dangles from the bracelet to show that this set was made with great care and love.

Very pale yellow hand dyed cotton Lycra® tights complete this happy ensemble.

“Princess and the Pearl”

Here are the photos from yesterday’s “miraculous” photo shoot!  You can read why I thought it was “miraculous” here.  BTW, the weather never improved after those couple of hours after noontime.  And, this morning, it’s dark, dreary, and rainy, yet again.  I keep reminding myself “April showers bring May flowers”.

The dress in this ensemble is the last of the 6 fabrics in this collection that I purchased.  Three prints are from the cool palette and three are from the warm palette.  Each palette had a tiny print, medium print, and a larger print with bouquet motifs.  This is the tiniest print in the warm palette, and is the most delicate of all the prints.

Gina’s dress is a longer bodice styled dress.  The skirt is embellished with a double row of ecru English cotton Cluny lace snugged underneath pin tucks.  The first row of pin tucks is decorated with hand made pink satin bows which are sewn on equidistant from the center front.  The same ribbon is used for the waistline tie which ties twice around.

The springtime lace capelet is hand knit with warm pink baby alpaca/silk lace weight yarn.  Rows of eyelets separate the panels.  Mirrored embroidery decorates the front panels and two of the back panels.

Gina’s headband is very delicate and I think makes her look like a princess.  I’ve carefully arranged and hand sewn three different kinds of blossoms, a bow, pearls, and seed  beads onto the headband.  I’ve sealed the blossoms to prevent them from fraying.

Pearl, Gina’s bear, is my first needle felted bear.  She is my fourth tiny animal–I am still learning this craft.  I love her though, and Gina does too.  She wears a matching bow around her neck and a heart appliqué (made from dress fabric) on her belly.  She is always ready to give her mom, Gina, a tiny blossom to show her how much she loves her. ❤

The other accessories include a pair of pink nylon tights and a bracelet with a mother-of-pearl heart dangle.  This ensemble was made with love and much care in its creation.

“A Springtime Garden Stroll”

As soon as the gardens start blooming (or maybe yours already is blooming, lucky you) Gracie will be ready for a leisurely garden stroll with Theodora Bear to keep her company.

Gracie’s floral print dress is made from the same print, but in the warm colorway, as Lucy’s here.  The roses on this print are in mauve-y shades and blush pink.  The green is a lovely shade, and the background is a very light warm off white.  There are tiny bits of straw colored blossoms which go nicely with the ecru English cotton Cluny lace used on the skirt.

I used two strands of baby alpaca/silk lace weight yarn to knit the sweater.  The natural color and blush pink are very close in value, but still create a subtle marled effect.  The sleeves are a true 3/4 length which I don’t think I’ve made before.  Scattered rose bouquets and motifs are embroidered on the front of the sweater.  It looks equally cute either buttoned or unbuttoned.

Theodora bear sits perfectly in Gracie’s wicker basket of blossoms.  She has been embellished with a teeny tiny hand made bow and a “Made with Love” heart charm.

Gracie’s delicate headband has been crocheted with pink bamboo and tiny pearls, and is decorated with a hand made bow.  The bow on the headband and the bow on the skirt visually line up with each other.
