“An Apple A Day”

An apple a day keeps the doctor away.  We’ve all heard this old proverb a million times, right?  Well, is it true?  The saying is probably not technically true, but I believe apples are good for you.  Here’s a link that will talk you into enjoying your apple a day, it did me.

And, to remind you to have your apple every day . . . is Patience all dressed up in an apple print.  This print isn’t your usual apple print colorway—it’s pink, with prettily colored blossoms. The apples on this print are a rosy red, which is different from the usual bright, or orange-y red.

Patience’s 3/4 length wool cardigan is hand knit with a custom mixed Peruvian Highland wool.  The color is a cool light red, it was impossible to photograph this shade.  It is always a challenge to embroider on darker sweaters.  If the embroidery colors are too light they all end up looking like the same color, and if they are too dark they disappear.  I think I got the right balance with this sweater’s embroidery.  I was even able to get some rosy apples to show up!

Patience loves her apple leaf hair ties.  They tie over a small lock of her hair into tiny bows.

Patience has an apple for you in her crocheted basket!  I also made her a little apple leaf branch with tiny crocheted leaves, which I attached to an actual branch with needle and thread.

So, don’t forget your apple today, if you are so inclined.  Right now I have a bag of organic gala apples in the frig.  I think I’ll slice one up (with the peel intact) and enjoy it later.

Patience’s “An Apple A Day” ensemble will be available tonight (August 28, 2016) at 7:00 pm CST, cindyricedesigns.com.

I hope you all are enjoying the last Sunday in August!  Geez . . . can’t believe it!

” ‘Tis Apple Picking Season”

This morning the lovely Alice is ready to show you her new apple themed ensemble!

This fabric, designed by Elea Lutz, is so sweet.  It’s probably the cutest apple fabric ever!  The mint green background is absolutely yummy, isn’t it?

Golden yellow looked “just a little fall-ish” with this print so that is the color I chose for this end of summer, or early fall ensemble.  Two embroidered apple tree branches laden with ready-to-pick apples grace the neckline.  Oops, a couple of apples have already fallen, and are on their way down.  Alice had better scoop those up and put them into her basket. 🙂

Alice’s crocheted hemp apple picking basket is the same as Lucy’s.

Alice has a crocheted apple hair tie, an apple-y bracelet, white anklets and panties to complete her new ensemble.  Now she’s ready to visit the apple orchard… with Lucy, of course.

Yesterday I got curious as to how Alice would look in another wig style and hair color.  First, I tried her in Penny’s mohair blonde bob, not great.  Then, I tried her in Lucy’s light brown wig.

Isn’t this a great color on her?  It’s a cool brown shade, not reddish at all.  I like it a lot on her!   It makes her look younger and goes beautifully with her eyes.  Dolls have their favorite hair color and this may be Alice’s.  It’s probably a Monique wig, but I don’t know the wig style or color.  Does anyone know?

Alice’s “ ‘Tis Apple Picking Season” ensemble will be available on Sunday (August 21, 2016) at 7:00 pm CST, cindyricedesign.com.  Please check the “Shop What’s New” page at that time for more details.

“Blue Skies and Sunshine”

“Blue Skies and Sunshine” is my newest creation, and it’s for Gracie, a Kaye Wiggs MSD.  Gracie arrived in March and I’ve been keeping her busy ever since.  This is the 6th outfit I’ve made for her!  If you’d like to see everything I’ve made just for her you can view her Flickr album here.  I’m having fun creating for, and photographing this beauty.

This new ensemble is the 5th colorway I purchased in this fabric–I loved it that much!  I didn’t initially purchase the yellow, but later on I decided the sunny yellow colorway was another “must have”.  Isn’t this the sweetest rose print?  I think this style of fabric (soft and feminine) is my absolute favorite style, not that I can pass up the “cute and colorful”.

Kaye Wiggs, Millie, got two ensembles in this print, ivory and blue.

The Little Darlings got three:  pinky pink, lavender pink, and ivory.  Since I didn’t yet have Alice, Gina and Lucy modeled these three.

If you’d like to see the posts from each of these past ensembles click on the following links for each title:  “Cutie in the Garden”, “Spring Princess”, “Rosey Princess”, “Sweet Princess”, “Pink Happiness”.

Now let’s get back to Gracie’s “Blue Skies and Sunshine”.

Gracie’s cardigan is knit with wool/angora yarn in its natural color.  This yarn is soft and feels a little bit like petting a soft bunny.  The embroidered rose bouquet motifs mirror each other and pick up the colorful motifs in the dress print.

Gracie’s crocheted hat is made with three fibers in yellow and whites, bamboo and cottons.  The crown features a band made with a coordinating rose print.  A hand made double bow made with hand dyed rayon ribbon and delicate ecru cotton English Cluny lace decorate the side of the hat.

The brim can be worn up, down, or at an jaunty angle.

Gracie’s accessories include a crocheted drawstring purse (filled with a little surprise), a bracelet with an adorable flower basket charm, yellow cotton panties, and anklets.
