“Wishing for Spring”

Hello there, my friends!  How has March been going for you so far? Do you have any spring fever starting, or autumn excitement if you are in the southern hemisphere?  I love the seasonal changes.

Lucy is most definitely wishing for spring here in northern Illinois, and I am right along there with here.  We had some springlike days last week; they were sunny and warm-ish, perfect for erasing any of the remaining winter doldrums.

We’ve had 7 straight days of sun-filled gems which have been glorious!  I haven’t taken even one of them for granted. ❤  It’s hard to tell yet, but maybe we’ll have an eighth.

To celebrate March, I’d like to show you Lucy wearing “Wishing for Spring”.  Her mohair/silk cardigan is in the most luscious green, kind of greenish turquoise.  I embroidered blossoms in pinks and peach along the front neckline and shoulder area to this light-as-a-feather cardigan.  They have tiny ivory Delica beads as their centers.

I knit this cardigan from my Little Darlings “Light Cardigan” pattern.  I used the longest length and the elbow length sleeve instructions.  You can find the pattern here.

Lucy’s pretty cotton floral dress is printed with pink and peach posies and tiny turquoise/green buds.  They pick up the color in the cardigan nicely.  French cotton lace decorates the hemline, and a thin pink satin ribbon ties around the waistline.

Something New… “Warm Hugs and Kisses”

It feels so good to have this ensemble for the Little Darlings finally finished!  This was the other one I started in early December.  Sheesh!  Since all I want to do lately is knit, I had to add this to my “to do” list to get this one completed—and I’m glad I did.  I really enjoy seeing my happy Little Darling, Lucy, enjoying it so much.

See how happy . . . and cozy warm she looks!  Her sweater coat and cap set is knit with merino wool/angora yarn.  It is slightly fuzzy with a halo and is quite soft.  The sweater coat is knit with my pattern.  I shortened it by one buttonhole’s length and omitted the pockets.  The hand embroidery on this sweater coat and cap is pretty and feminine and coordinates with the dress print.

The cotton print I selected for the dress is a calico from a “Little House on the Prairie” collection.  The Cluny laces in this ensemble are from England.  The scalloped lace is cotton and the sturdier lace used for the sash is nylon, both are off white in color.

Lucy’s other accessories include a hand knit wool scarf, heart charm bracelet, pink cotton tights, and a Teddy bear which is customized to coordinate with this set.

I hope you are having a wonderful weekend, my friends!  Thanks for stopping by!

Oh, and dear Lucy is sending you a warm hug and kiss . . . xoxo.  Hope it warms up your day.

“Love-ly and Sweet”

I just set a record… for the longest doll ensemble-in-progress.  There are actually two ensembles, and the second isn’t finished yet, so that one will break this record!  BTW, I started working on these two ensembles shortly after Thanksgiving!  Crazy!

So, without further ado, here is Gina modeling “Love-ly and Sweet” for you.

Luckily, I had the foresight to predict (ha ha) the frigid temps, so she is cozied up in lots of miniature knitwear, and of course, a pair of tights.

The capelet was made from my “Eyelet Capelet” pattern, but I used two-strands of lace weight yarn held together instead of one-strand of fingering weight yarn for a marled effect.  One thing to remember about holding two-strands together is that the colors will mix, so in this case the natural color mixes with the pink to lighten it.

I didn’t mirror the embroidery.  I wanted it to appear casual and loose—like the blossoms simply fell in place.

Gina throws one end of the scarf across her shoulder and slides on her fingerless mitts.  Mom carefully ties her cuddle cap in the perfect side bow.  Gina grabs her little crocheted drawstring bag (tiny hanky inside) just in case she finds a new treasure.  Then, she’s off—wonder where she’ll go today.
