More Snow and More

Another Sunday, another snowstorm!  We are 11 days into December, and this is the second weekend in a row that we’ve had snow!  Maybe all the snow will get used up in December and then January and February will be dry!!!  ???  !!!

The snow really IS beautiful, and if no traveling is required, the snow gently falling makes for a cozy day inside.  Last night it was snowing too.  I watched Mary Poppins and did some knitting in front of the fireplace.  Anyone else love Mary Poppins?

I am working on a sweater coat for the Little Darlings.  I hope it works . . . not sure I’m adding the right amount of increases to get the shape right.  If not, I’ll try again.  I haven’t made the dress that will go underneath the sweater coat yet as I want to see what length of bodice will work best.

I am going to use this fabric.  It is a very subtle snowflake design; I have just enough left.  The dress below was for Talyssa from 2014.  I am using the same yarn; I love the color!

I don’t want to make anything else that is too Christmasy.  Snowflake patterns can be worn throughout the winter, so I’m making a few of those now.  Unfortunately, I have quite a few Christmas prints that I never got to use this year.  I am set for next year.  I WILL NOT buy any Christmas prints in 2017!  Ha ha!

This was the snow falling last night, so silent and bright!

Today, more is piling up.

I filled up the bird feeder before the snow started last night, and the birds are happy.  I loaded up the platform with peanuts; those always go first.  The blue jays love those.  I forgot to put suet in the suet feeder, so the woodpecker is settling for seeds.  Do you see the mourning dove in the tree?  I don’t blame him (her) for hanging back.  Those blue jays can be mean.

As soon as the big birds leave, the sparrows flock to the platform one by one.

And then, whoosh, something scares them (probably me) and they’re gone.

Lucy and I had a photo shoot today.  It was quick and painless, she’s great.  Here’s a sneak peek.

I hope you all are having (or had) a great Sunday!

Thanks for stopping by!

Bye for now!

Oh, one more photo . . . I got this fabric months ago . . . see, I’m still dreaming of flowers.

It’s so pretty!

“Toasty Warm Holiday”

It was quite a nippy morning when Millie and I had our photo shoot last week.  Doesn’t she look toasty warm in her fuzzy hand made knitwear.  She even has a little muff hand warmer, lucky girl.

Did you have a muff hand warmer when you were young?  I had one in white (most likely) rabbit fur when I was quite little.  It had a little fox face on it which mesmerized me.  To satisfy my curiosity, I went looking on ebay to see if I could find a muff like the one I remembered.  This is what I found!  I think I remembered correctly.

Millie’s muff is hand knit, and  her bracelet is attached as the handle; it can dangle from her wrist.

Her dress is made with the same botanical holiday print as I recently used for Gracie’s “Holiday Botanicals” ensemble.  Gracie’s was in a different colorway, a deep red background.  You can see that one here.  I think I like both colorways equally?

Millie’s vintage-looking headband cap is extremely lacy looking and made to just covers the tips of her ears.   A tiny bit of leaf embroidery and red tassels decorate the cap.

The “light-as-a-feather” white mohair/silk sweater is embroidered with mirrored poinsettia motifs.  The sleeves are more generously sized and give more of an outerwear look.  The sweater closes with deep red glass pearls.

Millie’s tiny gem of an ornament is made with an olivine AB bicone crystal and mother-of-pearl beads.  A hand made red organza (matches dress sash) bow and hang tie is sewn onto a metal jewelry ring.

I made Millie a teeny tiny white silk bow that I’ll include with the ensemble.  It is too tiny for a clip or crocheted tie, so I attach it to her hair with a red tipped straight pin stuck parallel with the wig cap.  The little bow in their hair reminds me of the actress, Rose Marie, (from the Dick Van Dyke show) that always wore a bow in her hair.  BTW, Rose Marie is 93, and she has a Facebook page!

This one-of-a-kind “Toasty Warm Holiday” ensemble made for Kaye Wigs “illies” or Millie, Tillie, Lillie (11″ BJDs) will be available November 16, 2016 at 7:00 pm CST, cindyricedesigns.com.

“Holiday Botanicals”

Holiday decorating has begun in my sewing room and when Gracie dons her striped elf hat she really gets into the Christmas spirit.  Right now she is looking for the perfect spot for her grapevine poinsettia wreath.  Any ideas?

I love the colors in this botanical Christmas print:  orange-y red, aqua blue, yellow green, a medium bright green, deep red, and pure white.  Not that I don’t like basic red and green, but this palette is so fresh looking.  (It is actually a little more colorful; reds are so hard to photograph.)

The photo below is a bit brighter.  The problem was that to get the dress bright, I’d have to settle for the color of the sweater to get over saturated.  The photos of only the dress are a little more colorful.

The sweater is knit with hand dyed Peruvian Highland wool that I hand dyed to a warm red.  It has some subtle light and dark areas which give it a tonal feel.  The yarn matches the warm orange-y red blossoms on the dress.

For the sweater’s embroidery, I chose to highlight the bright white poinsettias, but to keep them on the smaller size in an asymmetrical scattered composition.  Three shades of greenery which match the dress are also used for the embroidery.  Dark burgundy berries and garnet bead buttons tie into the deep red background of the dress.  Again, sorry for the photo quality.  The white blossoms are very white compared to how they look in the photo above.  The closeup photo below is better, but the greens are appearing muddy, and they’re not.
