A Letter to Santa

Hello! Do you have memories writing letters to Santa? I don’t really, but I’m sure I did write to him at some point. Santa was very magical to me until I was about 10 years old. I never figured it out myself–my mom had to break the heart wrenching news to me, and I really was devastated. I was assured he would still visit and leave gifts, as I had younger siblings, but that didn’t matter as much as the magic being gone. 😥

Talyssa is a believer and I will never tell her otherwise. This sweet girl wrote the nicest letter to Santa this year. Talyssa would love a puppy, and only if it is okay with her parents. (After all, they are the ones who will do most of the work, right?) Talyssa then ends her letter with a P.S. offering her help to Santa, that is if he needs it.

Talyssa has donned her Santa hat and festive attire so that she can be ready just in case she hears back from Santa asking for her help.

The dress fabric was purchased last year and is called “All the Trimmings” by Maywood Studio. Talyssa’s cardigan is my pattern and was made longer with a bit of a-line shaping. Let me know if you’d like the particulars on how to change the pattern. I hand dyed Knit Picks Preciosa to this pretty cherry red. Bare Preciosa is used for the hat’s band and pom pom.

Have you started any holiday decorating yet? We will be visiting the tree farm and putting up our tree is two short weeks. Unbelievable!

I’d love to hear about your holiday preparations going on now or soon to be.

Sending hugs and warmth during these darker days in the northern hemisphere.

New Pattern, Snow!, and a Hello from Sugar

Hello there!  I hope you had a wonderful weekend!  I am looking out my window on this April 15th morning… Mother Nature, what are you thinking?!

It snowed all day long yesterday.  We ended up with 8 inches of snow–a lot for mid April.

My husband and daughter had some fun yesterday and brought this life sized snowman to life.  (Poor thing has already lost his eyes and mouth–he’s melting!)  But, look how cute he was yesterday!  They had fun!

In anticipation of the snowstorm we picked all of our daffodils Saturday night that we didn’t think would survive the heavy wet snow.  I’m glad we did as they really brighten up the house and remind us that it is indeed spring.

Dolly News!

My PukiPuki Sugar has a new dress/hat set.  She loves it, and wanted to show you–and also to say hello.

Her hat was one of the samples I knit from my newly published Amelia Thimble Hat Set Pattern.  The pattern is available on Ravelry.

Below is a slideshow of past hats made using these patterns.  They each use tiny amounts of lace weight yarn, so you can use up little bits to create you own tiny hat wardrobe.

Ringing in November with “Trimming the Tree”

My Kaye Wiggs MSD, Gracie, is here again with a new ensemble to show you.  This time she  has the tree trimming decorations unwrapped and is ready to begin this long awaited Christmas tradition.

As usual, this ensemble started with me falling in love with the fabric.  I could not resist all of the colorful ornaments on this Japanese fabric designed by Lecien—pink and blue for Christmas?  Most definitely, yes!  If you love a colorful Christmas, this ones for you!

I decided to highlight the red with the secondary color being the green to keep this ensemble as festive as possible!  Gracie’s wooly red sweater will keep her warm while she’s busy with the tree.  I added embroidered branches which are already decorated with coordinating colors of seed and bugle beads at the neckline.  The sweater closes with green glass bead buttons.

Gracie’ striped stocking hat is knit with four different colored stripes in a slightly finer weight of wool yarn.  Bright red, kelly green, blue, and yellow alternate with a wide fuzzy mohair/silk “Santa” brim.  The hand made pom pom matches the yarn used for the brim.

Additional red accents are Gracie’s chunky red ribbed cotton tights and a red hand dyed nylon lace (fine English Cluny) sash.  Gracie’s tree trimming accessories are ornament miniatures which I added gold-toned jewelry rings and ribbon.  A crocheted string of lights—also works as a fun scarf, and a length of gold-toned bead garland are ready for the tree.  Her “made with love” heart has been turned into another ornament for the tree.
