Turning One and WIP

Hello!  I hope your week is going great!

Thank you for all the comments and votes to help me choose my next doll dress fabric.  Not only did it make my decision super easy, but it also got me excited to start creating it.  I was amazed at how one of the four fabrics was the winner by far.  That was fun!

The floral print on the lower left was the winner.

I was eager to start sewing , so over the weekend I got the dress completely machine sewed.  Yesterday I hand sewed the lining and added the snaps.

My Little Darling, Lucy, is the first to model this dress for you.  Sorry about her messy hair–she was busy playing with her sisters when I pulled her away for a dress ‘try-on’.  (lol)  I’d like for Gina to try this on too.  I think cool colors may be her thing more than Lucy’s.

Those blue flowers in the fabric match perfectly to this mohair/silk yarn.  I don’t have many fabrics that match this yarn, so choosing this yarn for the dress’s cardigan didn’t require much thought.  I liked the lilac too, but I’ve been able to use that color more often.

I used my Light Cardigan pattern for the sweater and knit the cropped version with short sleeves.  It was a very quick knit.  I started it one evening and finished it the next day.

Today I started embroiding the cardigan.  Since it is darker than the dress I am embroidering the roses in very light shades of blue, violet, and green to balance with the light dress.  I think the light colors of embroidery will keep a summery feel to the sweater.

More birthday news this week!  Our chihuahua puppy is no longer a puppy.  He turned one on Monday.  We baked a dog friendly pumpkin cake (used our muffin top pan), frosted it with plain yogurt and decorated the top with fresh blueberries.  We sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to him then both dogs enjoyed a little piece of cake which took them 15 seconds to wolf down. 😮

We couldn’t get the ‘one’ candle to relight (we reuse our candles)–the wick broke off, so had to search for another.  We don’t usually allow our dogs on the table, but this was a special occasion. 🙂

I’ll keep you updated on the progress of my new ensemble.  It’s moving along nicely.  Yay!

Take care of yourselves, my friends!  Thank you for visiting. ❤

Wanna See My Fabric, etc. Haul?

Who can resist a sale of fabrics and notions?  Not I!  Not I…even in a pouring down rainstorm.  You all who are sewers or makers know exactly what I’m talking about.  A sale of fabric and notions doesn’t come around often?

I met this woman at a nearby garage sale this summer.  She was helping out at her friend’s garage sale and had some of her ribbons, buttons, and quilt kits there.  I bought lots of her buttons and ribbon by the way.  Tiny mother-of-pearl buttons and silk ribbon spools for 20 cents each!  Come on… are you kidding me?

I asked her about small scale fabric and she told me how she had bought out her friend’s quilt shop in Texas and had tons of fabric to get rid of sell over at her house, but it probably wouldn’t be until September, so of course I gave her my email.

I haven’t made any dresses for the Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes yet and I really want to.  I needed some one yard cuts for these, so that was my main reason to venture out in the rain this morning. 😮 and 😉  (As if I needed a reason.)

It was so much fun.  It was like a fabric store in her basement.  And she had a beautiful basement (with a kitchen) at that–a most gorgeous house from what I saw!  She had a cutting table set up where she had a helper cutting fabric.  At another station her sister (I think) was in charge of adding up purchases and collecting cash.  All the while she kept bringing out more fabric!!!

Her quilting room was painted the most wonderful shade of lilac.  She said the color was called muddy lilac or something like that.  It was a very rich color of lilac and very calming, I felt.  It didn’t look muddy at all, simply perfect.

Here’s what I found for the girls’ dresses.

The first two fabrics (below) are my favorites for my doll ensembles.

I found these buttons–$1 for all!  The carrots for Easter bunnies and baskets, the apples for fall outfits, and the candy canes to use now.

Below are the rest of the fabrics for doll clothes.  Some are only fat quarters, so I’ll need to sew side seams on the skirt, but it’ll work fine.

I love yellow and the tiny bits of lavender and grey are really pretty with these shades of yellow.

This fabric is a very pretty light powder blue.  I hope the scale isn’t too large.  Maybe it’ll at least work for my Kaye Wiggs’ dolls.

Lily-of-the-valley!  My favorite flower!  Maybe this will become a pincushion.  The print is a little large, but I love it!

I just realized that these look like daffodils, don’t they?  They are very tiny.

Very soft and delicate.  Isn’t it sweet?

“Wishing for Spring”

Hello there, my friends!  How has March been going for you so far? Do you have any spring fever starting, or autumn excitement if you are in the southern hemisphere?  I love the seasonal changes.

Lucy is most definitely wishing for spring here in northern Illinois, and I am right along there with here.  We had some springlike days last week; they were sunny and warm-ish, perfect for erasing any of the remaining winter doldrums.

We’ve had 7 straight days of sun-filled gems which have been glorious!  I haven’t taken even one of them for granted. ❤  It’s hard to tell yet, but maybe we’ll have an eighth.

To celebrate March, I’d like to show you Lucy wearing “Wishing for Spring”.  Her mohair/silk cardigan is in the most luscious green, kind of greenish turquoise.  I embroidered blossoms in pinks and peach along the front neckline and shoulder area to this light-as-a-feather cardigan.  They have tiny ivory Delica beads as their centers.

I knit this cardigan from my Little Darlings “Light Cardigan” pattern.  I used the longest length and the elbow length sleeve instructions.  You can find the pattern here.

Lucy’s pretty cotton floral dress is printed with pink and peach posies and tiny turquoise/green buds.  They pick up the color in the cardigan nicely.  French cotton lace decorates the hemline, and a thin pink satin ribbon ties around the waistline.

I hope you all have a beautiful day! ❤
