Daffodils Blooming Soon, But in the Meantime…

Last week while I was waiting for the daffodils to bloom in the garden, which for me is a sure sign that spring has arrived, I cut into a fat quarter of a small scale daffodil print and made a dress for my Little Darlings. I was able to purchase only one fat quarter of this fabric at a sale. Sadly I have no idea who the designer is, but it is the perfect scale for doll dresses. Does anyone recognize it?

When searching for the perfect yarn to knit the cardigan for this ensemble I tried yellows and orange yellows; the daffodils in the fabric seemed to get lost. I then tried this green and it made them pop, so green it was. The yarn is Knit Picks Comfy fingering weight pima cotton/acrylic in the honeydew color way. I used my sweater coat pattern, shortened it and made the sleeves three-quarter length.

The daffodil embroidery is created with three bullion stitches and then straight stitches for the petals. The stems and leaves are back stitches. I had some vintage bone beads in my stash; they felt a bit rustic and seemed to go nicely.

I used aged vintage cotton thread to crochet the cutting basket. It was very fine, #30, so I held two strands together. The handle is braided using 12 strands, and then it is hand sewn on. I didn’t have little daffodil flowers, so I made do by adding an orange bead to the centers of the yellow flowers that I did have. Not bad… it’ll work.

In case you are interested I have published a You Tube video showing “Daffodil Darling” in process.

Here’s another photo of Alice. By the way, this beauty is painted by Nelly Valentino.

How was the first week of the new season for you? We’ve had some nice weather here in northern Illinois–lots of sunny days and some warm ones as well. We are on a bit of a cloudy streak right now, but that’s okay, cloudy spring days are nice too. I am thankful winter is over and milder temperatures are now the norm.

Take care of yourselves, and thank you for stopping by today. 💛 I appreciate it so much! 🤗

Cindy, this is a sweet Spring outfit! Florida is gorgeous, and my azaleas and hibiscuses are in bloom! My start of Spring spare time has been mostly spent looking for a Dianna Effner 10” Boneka doll by the name of Connie. The closest one I can find is a 10” Boneka Talianna with a Goose, and I have a feeling it’s the closest I will find. May it be the least of my concerns!

Hello, Christina. Your flowering plants sound lovely! We’ve got quite a few weeks to wait for the azaleas to bloom. The Japanese Garden at the Chgo. Botanic Gardens is loaded with lilac azaleas in the spring. It is beautiful!
I hope you can find your Boneka doll named Connie. I don’t think I’ve ever seen her, but if I do I will let you know. Have a great weekend! 💕

    Good morning Cindy.
That is the prettiest piece of material for Alice’s dress and the cardigan highlights it perfectly. I love watching your Utube vlogs.
I have been busy in the craft room completing two more ensembles Little Grace.
I had not been able to get out and about as I was flooded in for a short time as all roads out were affected. I am not complaining because our dam which is the main water supply to the city is now past the halfway mark and with the rain we have been getting this past couple of months means that drought is now over. I have been out in the garden as the weeds needed removing, they certainly love the extra water.
I have been making small batches of jam from my fig tree (as the fruit ripens) . Fig jam is a favourite if mine. I have also been drying some of the excess fruit, a great snack.
The cooler autumn weather is upon us now and the winter doona is on the bed. There is still time to enjoy being outdoors and enjoying each day when the sun shines.
    Take care
    Wendy

Hi, Wendy. Thank you and thank you for watching! Alice is pretty happy with her spring ensemble. She is the first of my three Little Darlings to get something new this year. I love seeing what you make for your Little Grace. She is a lucky girl.
Yay for your drought to be over! What a relief!
Your fig jam sounds yummy! Not sure I’ve ever had it, but I think I’d love it. Your pantry will be stocked as you head into winter.
Thanks for writing and sharing your autumn preparations. 🧡

Bonjour Patricia. Je suis tellement contente que vous ayez apprécié ma dernière vidéo. Je me demande toujours si me voir travailler est ennuyeux pour les autres à regarder, c’est donc agréable de savoir que cela vous a plu. Merci de me l’avoir dit. Bon week-end! 💕

Hi Cindy , the daffodil print on the dress is so pretty! You picked the perfect cardigan color to compliment the dress on Alice . The daffodils do indeed pop . such a lovely cutting basket and you did great creating your own Daffodils! Again I have to say how talented you are!! Bethany looks so cute in her photo shoot. The video really shows your talent in embroidery and sewing! So nice to see Alice getting her dress and cardigan on ! The hanging rack with extra dresses is soo cute ! The weather was changable last week, we had 3 days of rain , but it is greening up our grass! Yesterday was nice and sunny , if a little cool. Have a lovely holy week ahead , Terri xo.

Hi, Terri. Thank you for such kind words! 💖 Alice is gloating in the studio wearing her new ensemble while her two sisters are in their undies. I must teach her how to be humble. 🤪
I’m not sure how we got to the end of Lent so quickly, but here we are with Easter only six days away.
The wind is blowing again today, but the sun is shining. We still need our winter coats or we will freeze. The grass is bright green here too; it’s so pretty.
I hope you have a beautiful week, Terri! 💐
