My Work the Past Week

Hello, my friends! I hope you’ve had a cozy week. We’ve had some snow this week and temperatures that allow for wintery walks. All good! For me the week flew by as it usually does. I started two new projects, so I have two things in progress in my studio: a new ensemble for my Boneka 10″ Rose and a cardigan for Linda Macario’s new doll, Didi.

Thanks to all of you for voting for your favorite fabric either here, on my Facebook page, or on YouTube. Number one, a fabric by Brenda Riddle Designs got the most votes, so that is the one I used for Rose’s new dress. You can see all of the fabric contenders here. I actually like them all and really couldn’t decide!

I picked out a dainty white lace to peek out from the skirt’s hemline.

I still have the hand stitching of the bodice lining to do and the snaps to add, but all of the machine stitching is complete.

Next I started on Didi’s cardigan. Linda wanted a dark red or brown in a fingering weight and I didn’t have that color in my stash, so the first step was dyeing yarn. She sent me fabric swatches so that I could get a color that highlighted both fabrics. I mixed brown, warm red, and yellow to achieve this beautiful shade of warm brown. I think it works beautifully with these two fabrics.

I chose a single ply merino yarn for Didi’s sweater. I love the way this yarn feels. It’s so soft! It shouldn’t be long before I can start on the embroidery.

I also have a few new videos on YouTube in case you’d like to watch my week in progress. I separated in studio work from other life stuff, so two videos. You can pick one or both to watch. I also redid a little stop motion video I made years ago of the Little Darlings. I originally had it on Facebook without music. Now it has music added to it. Here is my YouTube channel page. I hope you enjoy.

Wishing you a great week ahead! I hope the new week is good to you. Sending hugs! 🤗❤️

Hello to You!

Hi there! I hope you are well… and not too stressed if you’ve been in the midst of holiday preparations. It’s a busy time, that is for sure.

I am doing fine. I still have presents to wrap and some still to arrive in the mail, but my shopping is complete. We did a big grocery shop this morning, so the cupboards are far from bare, and all ready for holiday cooking and munching.

Today does not feel wintery and Christmasy at all. It is sunny and in the low 40s. Having grown up in Chicago (Illinois) suburban areas (and and still here) I am used to it being cold for Christmas and somewhat snowy too; many years it is also cloudy. Although I am hoping the sky stays clear as getting a glimpse of the Christmas star tonight is very intriguing to me.

I’ve been making YouTube vlog videos weekly since Advent started. I really enjoy catching clips of video throughout my day. The latest video is from last week. It includes some of what we’ve cooked, sewed, dolls getting dressed, pets looking cute 😉, walks in the neighborhood, and the start of ’12 days of holiday movies’ (something new we’ve begun as a family and are enjoying). Oh, I included (in the description box underneath this YouTube video on my youtube.com page) how to make a new snack–Super Simple Baked French Fries–they are DELICIOUS!!! and rival those fried potatoes at fast food places. For my daughter and I these French fries cure any French fry craving that might arise.

I am going to be making my 10″ Boneka Rose a new ensemble. I found seven fabrics that I like and cannot decide. Which do you like?

Number 1
Number 2
Number 3
Number 4
Number 5
Number 6
Number 7

Do you have a favorite? I cannot decide. Rose would probably look beautiful in any of them–she’s such a cutie. Her Little Darling sisters are looking forward to Rose joining them all dressed up in something new, so I want to get started soon.

My little Penny (by Linda Macario) has a dress in the works. She loved this girly bow print, so she helped me with the picking out of the fabric. Penny loves how the blue bows match her eyes.

Wishing you a beautiful week ahead. I plan to be back soon to share some holiday moments with you. Thank you so much for visiting with me today! Sending hugs 🤗 and ❤️!

Happy December!

It’s December!  Yay!  I almost enjoy these casual days preceding the holiday week more than the holiday week itself.  Almost…

I’m still not sure how it’s December already but the calendar tells me it is.  I am making a promise to myself this year that I will enjoy each and every one of these December days of Advent, and not succumb to any feelings of stress.  Easier said than done?  I hope not.

I have finished with Christmas doll ensemble making for this year.  My final sets will be in my little online shop Sunday night at 7:00 pm CST.  Here is a little preview for you.

Lovely and sweet Rose (Boneka/Effner) has a second festive set to show you for the year.    She is dressed in a cotton Japanese print dress with English cotton Cluny lace hemline edging.  A cardigan hand knit in merino/silk lace yarn with bullion heart and lazy daisy neckline embroidery keeps her toasty warm.  A Peruvian Highland wool stocking cap adds the necessary merriment to her look.  And Rose has a gift for you, a tiny Christmas tree with a mother-of-pearl heart for the tippy top.  Won’t you accept Rose’s gift this season?

Did you know that Amelia Thimble fits in perfectly with 1:12 dollhouse miniatures?  Here she is on an ornament with Ivy from Warm Heart Bears.  They’re just a wee bit adorable, don’t you think?

Amelia Thimble is spreading holiday cheer by jingling her jingle bell whenever she feels like it, which is quite often, I might add.  Between her and Sugar jingling away, my studio has never sounded cheerier.

Ivy reluctantly gave Amelia Thimble back her Santa hat; after all it’s part of this hand made set.

The jingle bell comes with the set too.  It fits over Amelia’s hand and will not easily slip off.  If you’d like to knit your own tiny dress for your Amelia Thimble or as an ornament, here is the link to the pattern.

Sugar (Fairyland Pukipuki) is looking mighty adorable this year too.  Sugar is pulling a miniature sleigh filled with all kinds and colors of jingling bells.  If you need a bell this year, Sugar has one for you.  Sugar’s ensemble includes her sweater dress and Santa hat. BTW, the jingle bell at the tip of her hat clings to her magnetic palm.

Here is a photo from a previous year just so you can see how much Sugar and Amelia Thimble love one another.  (Sugar also fits in well with miniatures and Christmas ornaments.)

Wishing you all a sweet start to December!  Enjoy, my friends!
