Some Things from This Week

This morning I made the last piece to go with Patsy’s Christmas ensemble, the tights. I don’t know why, but they are always the last thing I make. We even had time for our photo shoot! Afterwards, she wanted to go up on the shelf to visit with the other three girls who are all dressed up in their Christmas dresses. They look so cute together in a group, don’t they? This is the largest this group of models will get before the Christmas ensembles start going into new closets to dress other little girls for the holidays. (I always take the photos of the ensembles without their sweaters on last, so that is why no one is wearing one, just in case you were wondering where the sweaters had gone off to.)

I managed to find the bright red organza ribbon at Hobby Lobby to accent the waistline of Patsy’s dress. While I was there, I (of course) browsed the entire store. They had their Czech glass beads on sale and these little mixed packs of flowers and hearts looked too colorful to pass up, I bought two packs.

It was fun going through the pretty little baubles. I keep my hearts separate from my other beads since I use one with every ensemble, so I separated those out to be put with my other hearts. These are all my new hearts!

One of these hearts was used for Patsy’s bracelet in her new ensemble. Hmm, wonder which one… can you guess? Hint, there’s only one of them.

It was my husband’s birthday on Wednesday, so happy 29th birthday to him…

… just kidding, he’s really not 29, although he wishes he were 29 again! I picked up a pizza, lasagna, and spaghetti/meatballs from a favorite carry out spot for dinner. I know, too much food! I made a chocolate chip cake (from scratch) for his birthday cake. I barely had enough frosting; it wasn’t the best choice to make only a half of a recipe, but it was plenty sweet enough in my opinion.The little beggar is in his favorite spot. Nope, he didn’t get a crumb of cake, although he got a few bits of pizza crust.

Christmas Making is Progressing

I feel that I am finally getting in the Christmas spirit here in the studio. How many weeks has it taken for me to seriously get in the spirit?

Right now I have three dolls in their Christmas ensembles all waiting patiently for photos to be taken. And, speaking of Patience I am working on something for her too.

Here are Gina, Millie, and Sugar all decked out for the holidays. I originally had Gina in a Santa hat, but this ensemble seemed too dressy for it. I like the organza bow in her hair much better. I didn’t have my lighting all set up, so this was taken with the over head florescent lights and a tiny bit of early morning light coming in through the west facing window. You can get an idea anyway. I thought they looked cute all together and wanted to show you.

Maybe I’ll get photos taken today and maybe I’ll get sewing on Patience’s dress, or maybe both!

Christmas Ensembles from Years Past

Last week I showed you my Christmas ensembles from 2014. I was able to finish quite a few last year, but not as many as I would like to complete this year; after all they are the my favorite holiday themed ensembles to create.

So, last year wasn’t bad, but this is what happens when I don’t start early enough, plan ahead, have a goal, etc. You get the picture. These are from 2012 and 2013 with most being made for Amelia Thimble, so are tiny and much quicker to make. I plan on doing much better this year!

Patience got her one and only (so far) fun Christmas set in 2013.

I made two Christmas ensembles for Kish Bethany in 2012. This first one is more formal than the one my blonde Bethany is wearing. I think that this was probably the first sweater I made out of the mohair/silk lace yarn that I use so much now.

This was the second outfit that I made for my then new (2013) Pukipuki Sugar doll from Fairyland. I was tickled pink at how the jingle bell stayed on her hand due to the tiny magnets embedded in her palms.

And Amelia Thimble got a dress to match Sugar’s.

In 2013, I discovered that taking photos in front of our Christmas tree looked rather pretty, don’t you think?

This dress for Amelia was meant to look like she was wearing a wrapped present in unique Christmas colors. I took my color inspiration from the tiny wrapped present props.

Here’s another made with a unique Christmas color palette and embroidered with red and pink poinsettias.

And another in blue with holly and pink Christmas roses.

The green dress for Amelia was made to be a Christmas tree with tiny embroidered ornaments on it. I even painstakingly embroidered tiny gold loops so that the ornaments could hang from the ribbon garland. By the way, it is not fun at all to embroider with metallic thread. I’ve never used it again, that is how much “fun” it is.

I’ve always loved pink poinsettias!

As you can see, I made lots of Christmas sets for Amelia Thimble.

Doesn’t that snowy background look lovely? Well, maybe not yet…
