Some Springtime Thoughts for the Winter Weary

Are you tired of winter?  I am, most definitely.  It’s hard when you think you’ve gotten through the bulk of it (January, it’s the worst, right?) and here comes February and shows you that winter hasn’t even started yet.

I know that here in Illinois we shouldn’t be complaining.  Compared to those that live out east we’ve practically gotten off Scott-free.  Nevertheless, I am tired of the cold and snow.

I have had a busy week and a half working on more springlike outfits for the Little Darlings, Patience, and Amelia Thimble.  So, I continue to create my own garden here inside with pretty fabrics, colorful thread and yarn, and various kinds of needles.  I have everything I need here in my small studio to invent a bit of spring when there isn’t anything at all outside except snow… and more snow.

I cannot help thinking that since we are on the back side of February this all has to be over soon, right?  We can only hope.

After a busy day yesterday spent photographing, editing, and updating sites I have something new to show you for the Little Darlings and I promise it is very springlike.

I love pink and blue and often wonder which is my favorite color.  I never can decide.  I think that I love them both equally which is why I so enjoyed creating this outfit.  It is a lot of pink and a lot of blue!

What about you, do you like pink or blue?

A huge apology is due here.  This set for the Little Darlings got mistakenly published on my website last night so is no longer available for sale.  So, so sorry!!!  I am definitely red faced this morning.  I hope you enjoyed the springtime photos anyway.

Rose Garden Promises

Right now in the middle of winter all most of us have are promises and hopes that rose gardens will again be in bloom to mesmerize us with their sweet scent and beautiful blooms.

In the mid 1990’s I had a rose garden made up of a couple dozen rosebushes of all different varieties and types.  They were my inspiration for my cross stitch designs.  I designed a series of rose bouquets, a series of single rosebuds, a Peace rose bouquet, and a design for brides using some of the pastel roses growing in my garden.  I still have stacks of pictures I took of my roses, but sadly my rose garden is long gone.

These days I get my rose garden fix from public gardens.  In the nearby suburb of Libertyville there is a beautiful rose garden in the center of town.  There is also the Chicago Botanic Gardens which is one of my most favorite places to visit.  I’ve written about it a bit here.  You can visit their site here.  They are even open year round.  I’ve never visited in the winter, but I’ll bet it’s magical.  And, if you get cold there are always the greenhouses.

If you love roses too, where do you go to experience rose gardens?

I’ve just completed an ensemble made for the Little Darlings.  It is filled with promises of glorious roses.

A Wish for Spring

Don’t get me wrong.  I enjoyed the coziness of being indoors on Sunday while the fluffy white stuff piled up outside.  It was truly beautiful.  Now it is just so hard to get around with all of the icy piles everywhere.  In a strange way it feels like winter just started.  Boo Hoo!

Anyway, I couldn’t help myself.  I had to make something that hints at springtime.  Creating this ensemble for Talyssa helped me forget what is outside (for awhile) and think about sweetly scented springtime blossoms.

I know that it’s just a wish for now.  But, maybe wishing will make a warm breeze start to blow, the sun will come out and the snow will start to melt.  I yearn for spring.  Do you too?
