Holly is Feeling Oh So Lovely

Hi there from bitterly cold northern Illinois. However, I am cozy inside with a fire going in our fireplace. The Olympics are on and I have a snoring chihuahua wrapped up in a blanket next to me. Life is good!

Holly and I had a little photo shoot yesterday afternoon. (The lighting wasn’t great, but either I am busy or it is cloudy; I got tired of waiting for the perfect time.) Anyway, I think you’ll get the idea.

Holly is dressed and ready for Valentine’s Day 2022. Holly’s dress is made out of a peach striped cotton fabric which is sprinkled with red and yellow roses. Her red wool cardigan is keeping her cozy and warm and is embroidered in colors to coordinate with her dress.

Holly has been busy addressing valentines to her doll room friends. She loves the vintage ones the best. Even though she is the ‘new doll’ everyone in the doll room loves her very much. She is happy to have had such a warm welcome when she arrived on Christmas Day.

What is happening by you this weekend? I hope the rest of your weekend is perfect in every way! Enjoy! Sending you virtual hugs from all of us in the doll room! 🤗

My First Holiday Ensemble for the Fashion Friends

Hello to you! Welcome to this the second week of Advent. Today I have my first holiday ensemble for the Ruby Red Fashion Friends girls.

This is for my girl, Bella. Here she is to model it for you.

Her dress is made out of a festive botanical print–white poinsettias, red berries and multiple shades of greenery. I dyed a strip of cotton lace to add another pop of red. Bella also wears red tights and a red ribbon sash.

Bella’s hand knit cardigan is made with two strands of lace weight yarn held together while knitting. (For me, holding two strands of lace weight yarn will equal one strand of fingering weight.) One stand is merino and the other fuzzy mohair/silk. I embroidered tiny botanical motifs in coordinating colors sprinkled on the front of the cardigan. Bella’s cardigan buttons are red glass pearls.

Bella’s wreath is a purchased miniature which I embellished with a tiny deer, flowers, beads, and tulle bow. Bella can’t wait to hang her wreath, however, she is having a difficult time deciding where she wants it to go. Decisions, decisions… I’m sure she’ll figure it out.

How are you doing during this second week of Advent? After a week filled with appointments last week I have this week pretty open to spend at home. It’s time to start wrapping presents and making more cookies. My daughter and I made my grandma’s kolacky cookies yesterday. They’re one of my favorites and I haven’t had them in years. They are yummy, yummy, yummy!!! It’s slim to none that they’ll make it to Christmas.

Thank you for stopping by to visit with me today. Sending you warm hugs 🤗 and wishes for a comforting and peaceful week. 💚

A Letter to Santa

Hello! Do you have memories writing letters to Santa? I don’t really, but I’m sure I did write to him at some point. Santa was very magical to me until I was about 10 years old. I never figured it out myself–my mom had to break the heart wrenching news to me, and I really was devastated. I was assured he would still visit and leave gifts, as I had younger siblings, but that didn’t matter as much as the magic being gone. 😥

Talyssa is a believer and I will never tell her otherwise. This sweet girl wrote the nicest letter to Santa this year. Talyssa would love a puppy, and only if it is okay with her parents. (After all, they are the ones who will do most of the work, right?) Talyssa then ends her letter with a P.S. offering her help to Santa, that is if he needs it.

Talyssa has donned her Santa hat and festive attire so that she can be ready just in case she hears back from Santa asking for her help.

The dress fabric was purchased last year and is called “All the Trimmings” by Maywood Studio. Talyssa’s cardigan is my pattern and was made longer with a bit of a-line shaping. Let me know if you’d like the particulars on how to change the pattern. I hand dyed Knit Picks Preciosa to this pretty cherry red. Bare Preciosa is used for the hat’s band and pom pom.

Have you started any holiday decorating yet? We will be visiting the tree farm and putting up our tree is two short weeks. Unbelievable!

I’d love to hear about your holiday preparations going on now or soon to be.

Sending hugs and warmth during these darker days in the northern hemisphere.
