Some Tiny Easter Pretties

Easter and spring dress sets continue to be made here in still snowy northern Illinois.  This week I embroidered some of the most feminine and Easter-y dresses yet.

Usually I start with the dresses and then make a hat or cap to finish off the outfit.  This time I made the hats first (no idea why, just happened that way) and I then designed the dresses to match.

I started by knitting a pink dress to match the white hat with the pink embellishments.  Initially I thought this would end up being primarily a pink and white set.  After embroidering a pink rose I thought the dress needed lavender.  I embroidered the lavender rose and then the idea was born to make a pastel rainbow of tiny roses in Easter egg colors encircling the waistline of the dress.  I’m very happy with how colorful the dress turned out.  It is definitely Easter-y, isn’t it?

The next hat was very similar to a set I made last spring titled “All Dressed Up”.  I adore this thin jacquard ribbon and wanted to use it again for a new set this year.  The brighter pink I used for the rose embroidery is an exact match to the cotton I used for the hat.  Then I added a very light pink for the outer rose petals and a rosebud.  I matched the green in the ribbon for the embroidered greenery on the dress.  And lastly, the pastel pink roses needed some tiny white baby’s breath to complete this most delicate look.

‘Tis the Season of Green, of Greening, and New Growth

St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner.  When I was growing up this holiday wasn’t celebrated unless one was Irish (or that’s what I was told).  Not being Irish, St. Patrick’s Day came and went in my family.  These days everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day and March is the month of green.

I do love green even though I cannot wear most shades of it.  I think teal or turquoise are my only choices, but it’s the spring greens, the mint greens, and yellow greens that I love so much.  Put those colors next to my face and it’s not a good look to say it nicely.  Put those colors on my fair skinned Talyssa and magic happens.  She is truly a gal that looks wonderful in green.  So naturally, she was my choice to receive something new during this 2015 season of green.

Talyssa wanted a little posy to hold. I made her this one with crocheted blossoms and used macrame to combine all of “stems” together. I also wanted to bring more pink into the outfit.

March is Coming in Like a Polar Bear…Brrrr, Cold!

Oh, yes, it is!

Doesn’t spring seem like it will never, ever happen?  This winter has felt exceptionally long to me.  To you, too?

march is coming in like a polar bear 609This morning the snow was coming down in such big flakes it looked like someone from above was tearing up Kleenex tissue and dropping it from the sky.  After Mother Nature decided we had had enough snow she gave us some sleet.  I admit It was kind of interesting listening to the sleet crackle as it hit the snow, but then I didn’t have to drive in it.

My poor little chihuahua did NOT like the feel of that sharp stuff on his delicate little legs.  He looked so bewildered as he stepped in the snow and expected it to be soft as it always is.  Poor guy.

My “big” feet next to tiny chihuahua prints.

The critters got busy filling up their little tummies this morning.  We have at least two grey and three black squirrels that visit our feeder.  One of the grey squirrels seems to be the bully of the bunch as he is always doing the chasing.  I caught him chasing one of the black squirrels up a tree.  (It was a lucky shot, these guys move so fast!)

We get lots of cardinals here in northern Illinois.  Their coloring looks so beautiful on these dreary days.

We’re supposed to have a record breaking cold spell this week too.  Ugh!  Hope you’re having nicer weather than we are.

Where are you spring?
